Rated 4 out of 5 by JWBjr Bought two pair but neither was what I expected
Attempted to purchase two pair shoes. Had prior pair of slides (moc) liked but stitching coming out and soles wore rapidly, unusual for shoes I just wear around house,
Decided I'd get pull on Moc, but when they were delivered they were same as I had purchased last time. I'll just keep them.
Second pair on same order was to be the "one eye bison loafer" but when I opened the box I found they were a typical penny loafer, no one eye. Probably have to return them because even tho they are the same size and width they are too loose on my feet unless I wear very heavy wool type socks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RaviR Very comfortable
These shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have worn. I have walked the streets of NYC in these- blocks and blocks ! Durable, well cushioned and stitched. If you use orthotic insoles I would suggest 1/2 to 1 size larger to accommodate them. I,for one, actually stopped wearing my orthotics in these shoes because they were so comfortable !

Rated 5 out of 5 by horseanddoglover Quality shoe!
I gave these to my son for his birthday. At first they were a little tight
in the width but after wearing them for short periods in the house he
wore them to work and said they were very comfortable. He has recently worn boat/deck shoes but decided he wanted to try these for something different and a little more dressy. He likes the idea of putting a penny in them to reminisce what he wore when he was in high school. But these are far better quality than the shoes he had then.

I have been looking for a replacement for my go to shoes. I spent a lot of time on the internet but I love LL-Bean products. The company seems never to let me down.

Rated 3 out of 5 by shoelessJoeJackson 4th time's a charm
This is an update on my review posted a couple weeks ago. I wear a size 8/12 to 9, usually a 9, and have had for decades. I took heed of the reviews I read here and ordered a 1/2 size smaller and got the 81/2's. They were way to tight in the "forefoot" as they call it and so tight across the top of my foot that they were cutting off the circulation. So I ordered a pair of 8 1/2 wides. Way to wide. So I ordered a pair of 9's. A tad too long, too wide and I was almost stepping out of them.
So, thanks to the Bean's wonderful return policy, I decided to give another pair of 8 1/2's a shot. And what do you know, they fit almost perfectly out of the box! Interestingly, I don't recall getting this notice in the previous boxes, but there was a little card in there stating that these shoes typically fit tight in the forefoot and take several days to stretch out to fit your foot.
I've only worn them for two days and have worn thin socks with them and they are definitely snug in the whole forefoot area. But they seem to be breaking in well. I put some shoe trees in them to help stretch them a bit and that seemed to help. After two days they're still snug enough to be a little uncomfortable by the end of the day, but I see them stretching out to form to my foot over time and I know a little shoe repair guy that can stretch them out really good for me if I need his service.
I absolutely love the look of these shoes and could not find a penny loafer with this type of sole and style anywhere, and trust me I looked :) They seem to be well made and they're light and the leather is soft.
So, for you potential buyers, I suggest you size down a 1/2 size and beware they will be tight across the top and front portion of your foot out of the box. Oddly enough, they're designed with a relatively wide heel so that you tend to get a little heel slip depending on the size. Makes them easier to slip on however.
I would have given these shoes a higher rating but for the fit issues. Like I said, I typically buy a pair of 9's and they fit great. As a matter of fact, as part of this shoe buying odyssey, I went out and tried on a fair # of shoes, and all the 9's fit well right out of the box. I even ended up buying a pair of casual loafers that weren't the penny loafer style but fit like a dream and felt like I was walking on clouds, so I know it's not my foot, it's the shape of Bean's shoe!
But they're very good looking shoes and I'll be wearing them a lot for casual office and weekend wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DwightC Second pair bought
This is the second pair of the Allagash loafers I've bought. As I write this, I'm wearing an older pair of the Allagash oxfords and pr'ly after Christmas (or when i retire these guys) I'll pick up a pair of the Chukkas.
Actions speak louder than words. So I'd call this a rave review. But I'd also offer this caveat--shoe comfort is all about fit, and just because these fit me perfectly doesn't mean they'd fit you perfectly.

Second pair of bison leather shoes... happy with both. Rugged, good support, attractive and functional, great traction with lugged sole. Usual excellent LL Bean customer service.
