Rated 4 out of 5 by HappyhumanBean Great casual boot.
Bought these in August & still kind of in the breaking in period. However they're unique, stylish, casual, & well constructed. Only issue I did experience is the left shoe seemed a little tight, while the right shoe fit perfectly? Hoping the left one will stretch a bit so it's more comfortable? Pleased with the quality & workmanship !

Tried these on in the store and fell in love with them instantly. My feet are slightly wide and depending on the brand of shoe I wear a size 11-12, and the 11.5 fit me perfectly. The leather is soft and there is just the right amount of cushion with each step. I don't even feel like I have anything on my feet when sitting down, and when walking they are perfectly suited for navigating the sidewalks, stairs, and other terrain of my urban jungle.
One star was removed for the following reason: I have never owned a pair of shoes with rawhide laces, and I made it a point to ask the salesman at the L.L.Bean store if he had any problem with his (he previously mentioned how much he loved his pair) and he said that after a year he hasn't had any problems with the laces. The first time I put my boots on at home the very next morning, the right bootlace snapped off in my hand as i pulled it tight to tie it. Now I like to think that I am a strong Hulk-like man, but I have NEVER ripped a shoelace (especially a brand new one) while putting on shoes in my entire life. I guess I will need to find replacement laces, since I don't get into the store very often. Overall though, stylish boot for light work and city foot-commuting.

I love LL Bean - and after reading the reviews, I was excited to get this boot. However, I must say, this is the most uncomfortable boot I've ever owned. There is a seam directly in the middle of the ankle padding that is like a small stone that rubs the back of the ankle. I was hoping that they would break in, but it got to the point that I would wince just thinking about putting them on. As always, LL Bean is gracious and welcoming with returns - and that's why I've been a life-long customer.

I wear these boots almost every day as a casual shoe. They are very comfortable as far as boots go. They are very well built and extremely sturdy. I have owned them for over a year and have had almost no problems (the decorative brass loop on the side fell off after about 11 months of use, I took them back to the store and had brand new boots in a few days). They are extremely stylish, I get compliments on them all the time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by vnybeaner Comfortable, good fit, but light duty
These are nice shoes provided you don't expect them to be work boots or hiking boots (per most of the other review beefs). They are basically a high-top deck shoe. The leather is very soft, and I do see pretty fast wear on the lug soles. These are good winter shoes and not too hot to wear daily inside. Don't expect them to provide ankle support & protection. They do wear in nicely, but use something else with your chainsaw or backpack.

Always reluctant to order shoes online, the purpose, size, comfort & appearance were perfectly as described. As stated, best for mid-weight socks, but I think anything slightly heavier would be fine. These Chukkas aren't meant for running around in slush and snow - and they aren't constructed to keep your feet toasty warm - but they're great for everyday wear inside or out (great for sporting clay outings). Often forget they're actually 'boots'. Very comfortable. They were a little 'squeaky' out of the box but nothing a little saddle soap around the eyelets & string didn't resolve. Really enjoy these chukkas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by WSS1 Very good for casual wear
I had been looking for a solid pair of casual shoes since last summer and decided to give these a shot. I wanted something very specific: a shoe/boot that I could wear with khakis instead of boat shoes for more support/on colder days. I didn't want something very heavy, that's what I have bean boots for, so something in between. I like these as an option, they are very stylish and the colors really go well together. Would be confident wearing these just about any day of the week. My only real complaint is that the leather binding that hits the ankle is more of a work-boot style, I don't really understand what purpose it serves here.
Fit is a little narrow, but will break in just fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Grampy1925 Best shoe ever, except for sole
I am on my third pair of Allagash shoes - 2 chukkas and 1 oxford. All are extremely comfortable. They start as business casual shoes and work into being all around, then work shoes. Very pleased, except the lug sole wears out way too fast. The uppers are in fantastic shape, but I can go through the vibram lug sole in a year. I know when they are toast because stepping on a wet deck or tile floor is like stepping onto ice. Had new heals put on one pair, but it wasn't satisfactory. Seems a shame to toss perfectly good shoes because of worn out soles.

Rated 2 out of 5 by dgadams Look great, but no support
These boots look nice and are light weight. Alas, they provide little support for me. My feet always hurt after wearing these all day. I'm on the road and on my feet a lot of the time and need good support. I got rid of these after several months of use even though they weren't worn down. If you don't require good support in your boots, then these may work for you. I don't recommend this boot.

Although I just received these boots I want to share my first reaction. Firstly, they look MUCH better in hand than on the website. The nylon is a perfect dark shade of olive and the leather is very dark brown. I ordered a size 10, which is what I order when wearing a bit heaver sock and they just fit right. The look is very British Country if you know what I mean. As for quality, the look and feel are there but time will tell. Since Bean offers free returns and no questions return policy I had no problem ordering them but they will most definitely remain in my wardrobe. The price point is well below similar quality boots. I highly recommend them and I am VERY particular. I also very rarely review anything.
