Rated 5 out of 5áby MotherofThreeKids Our only winter boots for years, now
These are the absolute best boots! Reasonably priced, keep the feet dry and warm, extra liners are easily switched allowing the kids to go right back outside when snow goes down the boot (which rarely happens if they are paired with L.L. Bean snow pants), true to size, hold up to handing them down to the younger ones and.... wait for it.... the best part.... my kids CAN PUT THEM ON BY THEMSELVES!! We can not ask for better performance from a children's boot. Don't change them!!

Purchased Northwoods Boots last year and was pleased. Gave it another go this year but found an extremely narrow fit. My child's foot has narrowed to a C width, and it was simply uncomfortable. Glad for the easy return policy.

Rated 4 out of 5áby Taotaosmom Great boots but liners wear through
My son has been wearing these Northwoods boots for three or four sizes now. They are very warm and we really love them. They are a bit narrow at the top, but my son is thin, and as they are narrow it is easier to put the snowpants over the outside of them.
We absolutely love that they come with two pairs of felt liners. One pair goes on the heater when he comes home from school and another dry pair goes into the boots to go out to play or do errands. I have recommended these to so many people because of that.
However I have returned two pair of these boots now. One pair a year ago as the rubber was splitting open on the toes (along the lines you can see on the upper toes) when they were practically new. And another pair because the felt at the heels where the achilles tendon is very quickly wore through and left a kind of roll of felt, and an open horizontal welt straight through the felt.
LLBean was very nice to replace them both times. The split rubber was definitely a defect, and I thought the worn felt was too. But now the replacement pair is doing the exact same thing, and it is only Dec (ie he's been wearing them daily almost exactly one month). Perhaps they need to switch the makeup of the felt, or they need to put a fabric reinforcement patch over the back of the heel of the liner, like another pair of boots my son owns of a different brand.
It is really unfortunate as they are such good boots. Or used to be. The pairs he wore 2-4 years ago, he wore them til the treads were worn through on the bottom and they were still solid in the body. It is sad to see 3 pair in a row wear out while the treads are still new. That said, I hope that we can buy just the liners to replace since the rest of this pair are very good. (my son is 8 yrs old now and is in size 13. The defective pairs were size 12. He has been wearing this style since at least size 9 or 10).
I still highly recommend these boots as they keep his feet warm, and with the two pairs of liners, very dry, even at -20 or -30C. in wet Montreal winters and cold Saskatchewan winters.

very warm and very comfortable. I like the length of boots and that it comes with extra liners. It matches my daughter jacket. I wish there were mittens that matches jacket and boots.

I've been buying these boots for 4 or 5 years now for my boys and wouldn't even consider an alternative anymore. Their feet stay warm and dry no matter how cold and wet it is outside and how long they stay out. This is also true for LL Bean's kids' Thinsulate jacket and bibs. The boots hold up very well. They wear them even when the snow melts and we're left with mud [I take the liners out and wash them in the washing machine.] As of last year, the boots come with an extra liner [I'm just ordering this year's pair now so I don't know if still do.] I hand down my older son's pair to my younger son, then to a grand nephew. We get a lot of mileage from these, as I do with all my LL Bean purchases.

Rated 4 out of 5áby NovaScotiaLLBeanFan GREAT boots, reinforce liners or sell replacements
We have these from a few years ago. These were fantastic boots and kept my son's feet warm and dry up in Canada during our wet slushy winter. We love them, except for the liners.
I was considering buying another pair this year but notice that there still seems to be problems with the liners from recent reviews.
Just to share our experience, our boots look brand new after a year of use. I would love to pass them down to my other children, but I am unable to buy replacement liners. I have checked with LL Bean. My son didn't even get through the whole winter, because his liners tore and I was not able to sew them up. I have not had this problem with Kamik or Sorrell boots. When I compare the liners from the LL Bean boots to these other brands, they are not as substantial.
I did try to mend and sew the liners just to get through the winter, but they tore again. They tore right in the back by the ankle, making it harder for him to get the boots on and off.
The treads and durability of the rest of the boot is terrific. No wear. It's just a pain about the liners. So I can't recommend them, and I won't be buying this type again until they remedy the problem with them, or at least sell replacements.

Rated 5 out of 5áby 4kiddos Good value!
The price appears to be more than most parents would want to spend on a pair of boots for their child. However, these boots do last a long time! My daughter used these boots hard for about a year and a half when one boot's rubber broke completely apart letting water in, if course. The other boot was still going strong though. I spoke with LLBean's customer service and they have replaced the boots and now we should get good service this year and with the next, upcoming children! The most surprising part was that the new boots didn't look that much more "new" than the ones I sent for a return (broken part aside). I highly recommend these for active children in snowy/wet climates!

Rated 1 out of 5áby NJparent Not as good as they used to be
I have been buying these boots for my kids for several years now and I just returned our latest two pairs. Every single time my kids wore these out in the snow, they came in with soaking wet feet. And the liners started to fall apart as well. We won't be buying them anymore. But LLBean is great about taking things back- always excellent customer service!
