Ordered 3 Blacks in 2012. 2 are still perfect, one has a few chips out of the bottom edge (Bean said they'd replace it if I wanted to ship it back). I keep the screw on the head fairly tight, but loose enough the if they get a bump, they'll just twist the head instead of breaking a beak.
I've used plastic, foam, wood and cork decoys over my lifetime, and I think I like cork the most. Not as light as foam or plastic, but they ride the water much better in my opinion. If Bean offered wood decoys, I'd probably try them too.
The paint job on these might not be the most realistic, but they're very classic looking with just the field markings (I prefer that) and the Blacks and Mallards love them. I love the style and attitude of the head too.
For 2 seasons they just were put in a decoy bag with the others I have, but this season I switched to a 6-slot bag as that's all I ever use. These are a big decoy, and I'm a firm believer that bigger is better and would rather have my 3 of these than a dozen life-size (for puddlers anyways). I want to eventually try one of their Coastal Magnums.
The only thing I dislike about them from the factory is that they don't self right. I'm not tossing them 50 yards or anything, but I have to admit the first time I tossed one underhand and it didn't self-right was a disappointing experience. I solved this by screwing a strap weight to the bottom of the keel. Not a big deal by any means, and it was easily fixable. That's the only thing holding it back from 5 stars in my opinion.
They are pricey, but I think the quality is there and with the lifetime guarantee on them, I think they're worth it if you can swallow the initial cost.

I have several LL Bean Coastal Cork Decoys and they are very good decoys. They ride well in the water and have held up over the years. Light and easy to carry. Realistic decoys.
This past month I bought 2 mallards has a gift for my cousin. He is thrilled with them. I hope he uses them and doesn't put them on the mantel.

This decoy is a delight. It is beautifully crafted and painted. I am not a hunter but I like well-made decoys and this one is in my living room.
Thanks LL Bean. High quality as usual

Ll bean cork decoys ride the water more like a duck than any decoy made. I've been buying them since the eighties and find the quality of product to be very close to the same as it has always been.

I ordered a hen and drake Mallard coastal decoy. The Drake came with a fixed head in a strange turned position . I expected a strait head as in picture in catalog.
The Hen on the other hand had a movable head that can be turned either right or left or straight.
If both can not be movable head the catalog should state the head position more accurately.

I had my first opportunity to hunt over LLBean corks during the early teal season this year, having previously used standard plastic dekes.
The first thing that struck me about the coastal decoys was the size. The standard mallard decoys were quite a bit larger than most plastic decoys that I have used, with drake heads that sat up higher. The teal decoys were comparable in size to most others that I have used. In all, the spread looked very realistic when set up, and the large size made it easy to see from a distance.
Hunting on public ground during early season this year, we set up a dozen LLBean cork decoys (6 mallards and 6 teal) along with two motion decoys, and the birds were literally flying right over other hunters' spreads to come to the corks.
Yes, cork decoys need a little more attention, and need to be transported with a little more care than standard plastic decoys. However, after watching birds flock to them the way that they did, I can't imagine hunting over anything else!

Only one word to describe these cork decoys. Awesome! I have been slowly adding them to my spread and they always impress. They add a life-like look when hooked to a jerk chain, to simulate movement and realism to your hunting spread.

Well my father started out hunting over plastic. and, back in the 70's 80's the LLbean decoy was the best you could get to hunt over. So every year he would buy 3 and by the time I was born he had over 20 decoys. He never let me hunt alone over them so now I start my own tradition of buying 6 every year. I just bought them hunted them twice and they are no different then when my dad hunted with them. they are truly in their own league! If you have never owned cork be advised don't forget they need to be taken care of. They arn't your cheap plastic decoys. These are works of art do yourself a favor and buy the 6 slot decoy bag with them, and they will last two lifetimes.

I have 8 of the bluebills and 4 of the mallard. I like to have several manufacture's decoys mixed in for different head positions and body postures. The regular mallard decs are huge! These get scuffed easily, especially the wooden heads, so recommend the sectioned bags. Fancy decoys, love the head shapes. Have several decoys that ride the waves better and are better. These are the most expensive I hunt over. The holes in the cork pick up water and drip down your arm when picking up. Recommend buying a few to get the price break and adding character and style to your flock.
