This sweater fits perfect, sleeves and waist are the right length, the quality is excellent and it looks very sharp on. Received many compliments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MJKReno Warm and comfortable with a great look
I don't write a lot of reviews, but felt that this sweater deserved one. I have two: one natural and one blue. Both are identical except for color and are the best sweaters I have ever owned. Fit and comfort are excellent (I wear large size and have fairly long arms). No issues with smell or anything else for that matter. I have been stopped twice in public by strangers to compliment the looks of these sweaters which has never happened to me before with anything else I have ever worn. My only wish is that the blue would come back so that I might buy another to put away in case anything ever happened to mine. I have had both through one season and am starting on my second. I have worn them a lot and they are holding up extremely well and still look almost new despite the frequent use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PlaidMavin Nearly 20 years and still going
I sometimes image the women and men, sitting at home on Innishmore, knitting these sweaters.....I have owned my Bean fisherman's sweater for nearly 20 years. I loved how I could smell the lanolin in this for about the first 5-7 years. It is my go to sweater when the temp outside dips below -5 or so. In any temp between freezing and 10 degrees, it can be worn outside instead of a coat. It washes well year after year and continues to look nice. No pilling. Water resistant in fog, drizzle, etc. (not so much in a Michigan downpour). I figure at this point that it has been pennies per wear over its lifetime. Doesn't appear to have risen much,if any, in price. For those that care, it is a bit bulky, but less so than a wool coat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ncgeezer It's WARM!
not the most attractive sweater I've ever owned, kinda looks 2 me like they cleaned up all the remnants off the floor 2 make it, but my objective was 2 stay warm during the frigid winter.
Sleeves are 2 long 4 me but I think my arms have shrunk because everything I've bought recently the sleeves are 2 long.
Would definitely recommend even if you're not a fisherman in the North Sea.

Just arrived in the mail today and I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! this sweater! I bought it for my husband as a gift. I may order a small/medium for myself. Was a bit worried after reading all the reviews. To address some of the complaints; No funny smell, perfect fit, great quality, arms a little long but that's just the way my husband likes it. Just an overall, great quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lindyhop66 The warmest, thickest wool sweater...a great deal.
This sweater is very thick, heavy and well-made and gets lots of compliments. The only problem is with sizing. My medium wears like an large. It is keeping me very warm right now as I write this review. I've taken long walks in cold weather in this beautifully woven sweater very comfortably.

If you are looking for this type of sweater and want to buy online with free shipping along with LLBean's merchandise guarantee (which is why I bought it) I recommend it. I am giving it only 4 starts instead of 5 because it did come a little big for an XL and it does have a slight oily smell to it. But I think they use oils on real wool when they make these the traditional way so I think it's almost a good thing. But I will put it in a garment bag with a few dryer sheets until I wear it and I think it will be fine.

Great quality but runs a little large. Since none of the women's sweaters are cut straight and are fitted and tight, I sent for a men's large and am now returning it for a men's medium which should give ample sleeves and traditional cut. This is not offered in women's. The weave is looser than I would like as I was hoping for a heavy weight, real Irish sweater, but it is medium weight and fine for the price.
