Just arrived in the mail today and I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! this sweater! I bought it for my husband as a gift. I may order a small/medium for myself. Was a bit worried after reading all the reviews. To address some of the complaints; No funny smell, perfect fit, great quality, arms a little long but that's just the way my husband likes it. Just an overall, great quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Lindyhop66 The warmest, thickest wool sweater...a great deal.
This sweater is very thick, heavy and well-made and gets lots of compliments. The only problem is with sizing. My medium wears like an large. It is keeping me very warm right now as I write this review. I've taken long walks in cold weather in this beautifully woven sweater very comfortably.

Rated 4 out of 5áby tphilbri Irish Sweater
If you are looking for this type of sweater and want to buy online with free shipping along with LLBean's merchandise guarantee (which is why I bought it) I recommend it. I am giving it only 4 starts instead of 5 because it did come a little big for an XL and it does have a slight oily smell to it. But I think they use oils on real wool when they make these the traditional way so I think it's almost a good thing. But I will put it in a garment bag with a few dryer sheets until I wear it and I think it will be fine.

Great quality but runs a little large. Since none of the women's sweaters are cut straight and are fitted and tight, I sent for a men's large and am now returning it for a men's medium which should give ample sleeves and traditional cut. This is not offered in women's. The weave is looser than I would like as I was hoping for a heavy weight, real Irish sweater, but it is medium weight and fine for the price.

Rated 2 out of 5áby SkiApache Smells like a barn
This is a beautifully made sweater. The quality is excellent; the cable stitches are beautiful; it is made in Ireland - authentic. All of that is wonderful except for one small detail: The sweater reeks of sheep dung. It smells exactly like a pungent barn. Also, when one follows the washing instructions on the tag, the sweater felts. The first time I washed it, it did not felt. The second time I washed it (as it still reeked of barn) exactly by hand (in cold water) as instructed on the label - the thing felted so that now it will fit a 4-year old. It will fit a 4-year old AND it STILL smells like a barn.

Rated 5 out of 5áby marksbean A most excellent CABLE Knit Sweater
The LL Bean sweater is made of fine wool, and the knitting is truly a CABLE Knit Sweater. : a CABLE Knit style sweater is one that you
could really gently slip a blunt pencil through the Cable design!

Rated 2 out of 5áby CraigF Arms too big
The overall quality of this sweater is great, just like something you'd get out of Ireland. Surprisingly, the fit isn't as traditional as most LL Bean clothing, which is great. Unfortunately, there's just WAY too much material in the arms such that I could barely put my peacoat on over it. When I did manage it, my arms felt like sausages and couldn't move much. The issue is that the arms are so long that you have to push them up, which creates a lot of bunching. It was returned with much regret as it is otherwise a great sweater.
