Rated 1 out of 5 by Gramps1950 Uncomfortable boots
As they may be waterproof I guess they are very uncomfortable. Extremely stiff sole with no flex and it feels as if you have sand in your shoe. Even after purchasing expensive linings still same result. Very over priced item. Purchased a pair at a competitor for exactly half the price but yet 10 times the shoe.

Bought these to wear when I needed waterproof shoes but not boots for football games. Absolutely love them. Great everyday footwear.

by UniqueNickname001 Sole came apart
I have had my boots for three years and the soles on both boots have peeled off the upper part, not something you want happening out on the trail. Not hard use, nor very frequently. Waterproofing failed in 1st year. I expected better from LL Bean.

Fits nicely, easy to get on and off. Reasonable price. Still have to check them out for their GoreTex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TheTETJr Two Fingers Short of Perfection
I am 75, arthritic, and walk funny. I needed all-season walk and work boots to replace my LL Bean PAK boots in the heat of summer.
My two critical criteria were wide heels to support the outer rear quadrants of both feet and finger loops because arthritic fingers can't pull simple tabs.
These boots have been almost perfect right out of the box. I have worn them 8-10 hours a day for strenuous landscape work on stoney terrain with no break-in period necessary. They seem cool enough. Most importantly, they accommodate my orthotic inserts and fully support my strange gait. There is no round-heeled feeling that I will fall backwards. These are more comfortable than my dress shoes.
The shortcoming? The finger loops are a cruel joke. In order to save material, they made them too short to insert fingers. Who carries a boot hook around all day? A half inch more material on each loop is not too much to ask at these prices. Fortunately the boot opens wide enough to don in spite of the loops.
BOTTOM LINE: Highly pleased; suit my purpose exactly; absolutely recommend!

Rated 4 out of 5 by BWRandall Very good light hiking boot, but not excellent
I love these hiking boots. I just bought my fourth pair. They seem to last roughly four years. Fit perfectly. I wear them year round. In the winter (REAL winter: Minnesota) these are perfect. Warm even with just athletic socks. In the summer these are still comfortable but for merely walking around on hot days, you can definitely find something cooler to wear.
So why not "excellent?" Two reasons.
First, the sole is not replaceable. It's very soft and wears fairly quickly with street use but cannot be replaced by a cobbler or by Bean itself. And the uppers are still in very good shape when the soles are ready to be replaced. So really a shame.
Second: the shoe lace guides are very very poor and are unfinished metal. So the laces would wear quickly if you laced them that way. Fortunately, you can simply re-orient the lace guide so you're passing through the floppy loops (passing the lace through "east-to-west" rather than through the narrow double holes "north-to-south").
If you keep the laces the way Bean strings them at the factory, the laces wear through in about a month. If you use my technique, they'll last about a year.
So that's it. A really good boot. I wouldn't keep buying them if they weren't great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Janman67 Best boots ever!
I have worn boots for decades. I have worn these for a year and just bought a back-up pair. These are the best, most comfortable daily use boots I have ever worn. There is nothing more important on the trail or at work than to have well fitting, comfortable, dry boots. Please don't try to improve these boots-you can't!

The hiking boots were a father's day gift. The color was great--never had boots that color. I have only worn them for a few weeks but they feel great so far. I know the gore-tex will last.

I bought a pair of these boots approximately 3 years ago, I never had a boot which formed to my feet as good as these did and was comfortable right out of the box. The price on these has raised significantly since my first purchase and was right at $129.00 and now they are priced at $199.00.
After 3 years of being non-abusive to them the rubber on the front of the boots have come loose and they are not even close to being worn out, a big disappointment needless to say. I'm hoping the new pair I just bought lasts longer or it will be my the last time I purchase them. Look for a sale price to get the best deal.
