This microfilter provides you with more clean, fresh-tasting water with less hassle while backpacking, camping or in emergencies. Dual filtration technology combines high flow pleated filtration with cleanable long-lasting ceramic filtration so the filter lasts for 500 gallons (2000 liters). Dual-piston technology maximizes the output of the pump. Choose "Faster Flow" mode for 2 liters per minute, or "Longer Life" mode to extend cartridge life in dirty or challenging water conditions. Replaceable carbon core keeps water tasting fresh and reduces chemicals. Multiple water-container attachments allow you to easily attach filter to water bottles, hydration packs or large water containers. Made in Switzerland. Available in US only.

Rated 2 out of 5�by Newtibourne I expected better quality for the money I just received my newly purchased Vario today. After cleaning out the charcoal dust by running some water through the filter, I went and prepped it for some long term storage since I wouldn't be using it within the next month. Upon trying to remove the inlet water tube, I managed to pull the inlet water port right off of the filter housing. It's like it was just glued on there and not one solid piece. Thankfully this happened to me right away and not out in the field. I've used Katadyn in the past (Hiker Pro) and have liked their product but I have to admit that this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The only reason this product got 2 stars instead of 1 is because of my previous experience with Katadyn's Hiker Pro but now I will certainly think twice before going with them again. Thankfully, L.L. Bean's customer service was excellent and I will be exchanging this product for a different type of purifier very soon! September 7, 2012

Rated 5 out of 5�by JerrysRangers Very well built Very nice little package. It comes with extra gaskets and O-rings. Cleaning tool for the stone filter, storage bag. Great add-on to any backpack. It beats carring extra water. Just word to the wise, give it a test run before hitting the trail with it. You need to run water though it once or twice to clear out the fine charcoal dust, if not it will end up in your bottle. Have fun with it and happy trails. October 19, 2011

Rated 5 out of 5�by LoneWolf365 Katadyn quality, LL Bean backing? Great! This is a decent filter for one or two people. I am a frequent backpacker, camper, hunter and fisherman. I like to go farther out than the crowd and this filter allows me to reduce weight all around. I can carry one Swiss Gear water bottle and this filter and I have drinking water where ever I go. I've used it fly fishing to pull water right out of the stream to fill my bottle. The filter last a long time if it is just for recreational use. June 5, 2010
