Rated 2 out of 5 by harleyrider2000 Worst boots I've ever owned.
To preface my review I would like to say I've been wearing work boots for construction more than 40 years so I have some experience. I bought these boots last year and hoped they would be as good as the reviews. I was sadly disappointed. Within the first two weeks the seam across the toe started to unravel. Not very damp proof after the seam goes.
The laces are a stiff material that stay tied just great, but they jump off the eye hooks as you work so count on tying them dozens of times during the day. OK, your thinking replace the laces already. $230 boots and now I have to buy laces too.
I like to wear my boots loose at the top and these boots won't allow that because of the hooks at the top. This is where the discomfort comes from. Even with better laces they will not stay on the hooks without pulling the laces up tight.
The positive is the soles last forever. Unfortunately, in my case, you get to throw them away before you can bear to wear them out. The leather is super tough, but weak stitching defeats that.
I live in Texas so thick socks are not an option for me so your experience in Maine might be better because of the cushion from a thicker sock. For me, I can't wait to get these off at the end of the day.
These could have been good for 2-3 years given the great soles and leather. This would have made them a good value even at $230, but even if I could take another year of the discomfort and the annoyance of tying them all day, I can't live with the toe flopping because the seam is almost totally gone. Safety issue, not to mention the embarrassment since I own the company. Time to find a new pair. Their are better boots at half the price so overall this is a two star deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JaseJ Great boot so far...
Got this boot in the mail about a week ago and couldn't be more pleased. I spoke with a rep about sizing before I ordered because I read other reviews that made me second guess what size I should get. The rep told me that if I had a pair of boots that currently fit well then I should stick with that size. So, that's what I did and my boots fit perfectly. I got a pair of 10.5 EE and I love the fit. They were a bit stiff the first few days, as expected, but the leather broke in quickly and they are already a really comfortable boot. They look great with jeans and are comfortable enough to wear all day. The stitching looks very durable and the laces are great. Seems like a quality boot that will last a while. Originally looked at other boots from quality brands but these were less expensive and seem to be just as good in quality and look great as a casual boot. Thanks L.L. Bean!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BootMan75 My second pair
This is my second pair of these boots. Pay attention to the reviews when they tell you to order a size smaller than you normally wear. I wear a 10 in other shoes but ordered a 9 as recommended and they fit great. They're quite a bit darker than my first pair but overall still a great pair of boots. I still wear my first pair when the wife lets me. They are few years old and don't look the best now but man are they comfortable. The new pair took about a week or so to break in and get better each day. Highly recommend these boots. A bit expensive but well worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DelGizzi Excellent Boots
These are sturdy comfortable boots, but definitely not intended for a construction site for example (not why I purchased them). They do require some break in time and the color is darker than the picture indicates, but I have no complaints. I agree with the common theme in the reviews of ordering a half size smaller than your usual. I also ordered the EE as I have a slightly wide foot. I wear thick socks with my boots and they fit perfectly. Overall: very satisfied by another excellent LL Bean product.

Nice boot, very comfortable after break in. But, the stitching
on the top of the boot just fell apart. Very disappointed.

I have been looking at these boots for a couple of years, at least. They are a bit expensive but I always look to buy quality. After reading a number of reviews (20+), with winter coming up, I decided to order them. And, they are simply awesome. I have been wearing them for several months, and worth every dime. They look great, especially with jeans, and feel awesome. Depending on your work environment, I am not so sure I would wear them to work on a "causal Friday" type of day. But, I wear them everywhere with jeans or khakis. Every part of them feels to be of quality materials and made. I have had many people compliment my boots.
I consider myself a 'value buyer', buying quality things that feel great, look great and wear great. Also, I agree with the reviews concerning size - a 1/2 size smaller. And, in the beginning I didn't lace up the tops part of the boots... no problem breaking them in.
My advise, get them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MikeBoston Love the boots!
I was looking for a pair of boots for mainly wearing with jeans. Didn't want them to dressy since they would be slippery outside and not tough enough for the snow. Also, did not want them to be super high end worker boots that would be to expensive and overkill for day to day casual wear. The Chippewa boot made for Bean is perfect. Great construction, great price and comfort after you break them in! There can be worn with jeans khakis etc. and be used on the job all day. I added some Sno-Seal oil to them which made them a little darker initially. Water repels off the boot nicely when taking early morning dog walks and dealing with all that winter can offer here in the northeast!

Rated 5 out of 5 by AKGiggity Great boots but order a half to a full size down
I bought these boots for everyday where in my office where I also can find myself on job sites now and again. The soles are certainly not meant for hiking or high traction on anything but normal floors/pavement/etc.
Break-in period was about 3-4 days and involved some pain as you'd expect from this type of footwear. Since then, they fit very well and feel great. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JamesCMH Patience needed to break in
This is my 4th pair of Chippewa's (not all the katahdin) and these are some of my favorites. They seem to be better quality than the first pair I bought from LL Bean in 2001. The leather is heavy, well stitched and look like it will last. The soles, which do not sport a deep tread, are great for indoors and walking and are very supportive and comfortable.
The run a bit large - I'm a 10.5 normally and I'm great in a 9.5 EE (wide feet).
Be patient on the break in . The upper are not soft leather and will need at least a half dozen wearings to start to fit you. Mine were very uncomfortable the first 3 times. I've had them for 2 weeks now and they are about 90% broken in to my feet and getting more and more comfortable.
The leather doesn't have a shiny, fake look to it and IMO looks much better than treated leather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by customerfromohio great pair of boots
just bought these at your Freeport store. first of all listen when reviewers say they run big. I wear a 10.5 and bought a 10. the fit is perfect. next allow breakin time. I wore them around the house for 4 or 5 days for a few hours every day. then I wore them around outside doing yardwork. then I finally wore the out to a high school football game. now they have really begun to be comfortable. a truly great pair of boots.
