Rated 5 out of 5áby cotenord Small but SOOOO good looking !
Yes, these are small reel cases. I bought the large and small - the large will not fit our salt reels, but will fresh water w the handle off. The small is a great fly case. I may buy more for travel cases for camera bits, jewellery, etc. Very good looking and the sheepskin lining a good protector. Excellent price for the quality

I have two of these now. The small fits my old Martin model 63 and the medium fits my Pflueger 1494 Medalist. Well made at a good price.

This is great case, well made and looks great. You do need to know that the small is a very small case and the mediun is what I would call a small. The small and medium are both very narrow cases so be advised.

I?ve purchased quite a few of these cases. The quality is good and the price is reasonable but to call these reel cases is misleading. The diameters are spot on but the cases are too shallow to handle all but the narrowest models. As an example, I have a Pflueger Medalist 1494 Reel in the size medium case (Item #:TA242548) but the fit is tight and the reel handle bulges the case outward and provides very little protection against impact. I think that most would agree that a Pflueger Medalist 1494 is a fairly average sized reel. My hope is that the case will stretch over time to better house the reel but that hasn?t happened to date.
But, for the most part, I don?t buy these cases for my fly reels.
I buy them for my extra spools and even here, the fit is tight.
The size small (Item #:TA242547) will handle extra spools that are no wider than three inches such as spools for a Hardy Flyweight, Featherweight or JLH 5. It will handle spools for the Pflueger Medalist 1492 and 1494 but again, the handle gets in the way and the fit is tight.
The size medium (Item #:TA242548) will handle extra spools for reels that are no wider than three and a quarter inches in diameter such as spools for a Hardy LRH or JLH 6
The size large ((Item #:TA242550) is a little more generous in depth and will handle extra spools for a Hardy Princess, JLH 7, Marquis 7, etc. It should handle all extra spools short of the largest spools designed for saltwater. Since the large size case is considerably deeper than the other two sizes, it should hold most large, freshwater fly reels as well. As an example, a Pflueger Medalist 1495 reel fits perfectly.
To sum up?these reel cases are useful but limited.
If L.L. Bean increased the diameter by 3/8? on the small size and 1/2:? on the medium size, they would have a winner but due to the reasons I sited above, I am only giving this item two stars.

I love my two Reel Cases but I don't own a reel! I use mine to store my recharging battery, cords, ear buds, etc for my phone. I keep it in my purse so that I never have to worry about where all those things are. It is just so beautifully crafted I HAD to have one. I use my smaller one for sd cards and adapters.
I would recommend the reel cases for everyone! We all have something to store safely!
Thanks again LLBean!

I will briefly join the chorus and say that you need to do your measurements VERY carefully when deciding on what size reel case to get and that they run a tad small (mostly in height). Aside from that minor concern, these reel cases are fantastic! The leather and canvas are supple and already feel familiar in your hand from the first day; I expect them to age beautifully. There is a nice thick bed of shearling inside and they close up tight with the zippers. The piece of leather with the LL bean logo is also raised off of the canvas and allows you to hook it to a clip, carabineer, rope, or put a tag on it to label what reel you have inside; which is what I did since I have more than one of these great cases. These are much higher quality and will provide a lot more padding and protection to your reels than all but the most expensive OEM cases and are ridiculously affordable. This should be the first purchase you make after a new reel and will definitely be mine from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Jifigz Nice Case for a Great Price
I ordered this to mainly stow away my reel in a backpack and keep it relatively protected while I backpack in to more remote streams. For the money, this case is awesome. I love the vintage look of the case. I will echo what others have said as the case seems to run a little small as compared to advertised dimensions, but the small does fit my Okuma Sierra 4/5 but it is tight. I don't doubt that it will stretch a tad over time and be fine, and given that it is a 4/5 size reel I can understand it barely fitting. This would hold a 2/3 reel perfectly and barely holds the 4/5, but still holds it, so I feel that the small sizing is appropriate. I am going to buy more of these or I will try out there Kennebec covers. Good stuff though.

I bought the small size of this to carry a Lansky puck-type axe sharpening stone in my backpack. It's like they were made for each other. The quality of this case is impeccable and the traditional look pleasing. Highly recommend.

As others have observed, these are very well designed and made - I don't believe I have seen any better reel cases other than some top of the line tanned leather reel cases. And they look like they will last a long time, as well as provide good protection for your fly reels. My one caveat (which others have also voiced) is that they are smaller than you would expect from the descriptions. I ordered a couple of each of the three sizes. Although the small supposedly has a 3-1/2" diameter, it would not hold a 3-1/8" Hardy Perfect reel or even a L.L. Bean's Double L Model 3/4 reel, that has a 2-5/8" diameter (and that is about the smallest working reel I own). Not only does the diameter appear to be overstated, but they are also quite shallow, and even though I could just barely get the Bean reel into the case, I could not come close to closing it (which would have been true even if I could have removed the handle from the reel). Based upon my measurement, the inside diameter of the small case is about 3-1/8", but because the case is so shallow, it will not accommodate a reel with a 3" diameter, particularly if you consider that the foot of the reel also needs to fit and the handle requires additional depth. To avoid having to return for an exchange, I would strongly recommend ordering a size larger than the descriptions would suggest (this applies to the other sizes, as well as the small).

Bought two of these as both my wife and I have 3 wt pocket water rods and reels. The case is a perfect fit for the 3 wt reels and is exactly what I wanted.
