Rated 5 out of 5 by Dogwalker21 Stormy Kromer Hat
I recently purchased a Stormy Kromer hat that I saw in your catalog. I enjoy being outdoors but with the Ohio winter weather, I do not enjoy being cold. The hat is perfect. It is stylish, it fits well, is not too warm or too confining. The fold down earflaps are great when I'm out walking the dog. It has a lifetime warranty and it's made in the USA. It shipped promptly and shipped free! Thanks, L.L.Bean. This piece of clothing is top notch.

This is a tried and true hat that has been worn in the Midwest for a long time. It's a nice mid weight wool fabric, that's warm and stylish for our long Winter season. My husband has two (different colors), and this will be my Dad's second as well. It's not one size fits all, so you need to measure for size, but it comes in different sizes to accommodate.

Although the fabric was warm, the ear flaps were too small to cover even half of my husband's ears. The hat looks a lot better on line than on a real human. It was returned.

Lovely hat, purchased for my husband. We had to send it back right away, as the hat stank to high heaven. Think this is an ongoing and increasing problem with LL bean items; wondering if it is a warehouse issue on something like this hat. Anyway, the stench is bad for the lungs, so back this cleverly designed hat went!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BJ59 best winter cap ever
This hat is what the title asserts: the best winter cap I've ever bought or worn. All wool exterior, cloth inner lining, and cloth sweat band. The adjustable size, which is supposed to be a feature of this cap, is questionable; I use it instead to slip the wrap-around flap a little lower on the back of my head to ward off wind.
I've "field tested" this cap for the past several weeks on camping trips and outdoor work (unseasonably cold Fall this year); it has done everything I could have wanted in a cap. And it doesn't come off in a stiff wind.
This is the kind of product that LL Bean used to carry back in the 70s and 80s: rugged, good-looking, comfortable, and MADE IN THE USA.

Have wanted one of these for years. My Grandfather always had one when I was growing up in Vermont. Purchased one recently and used it on a four day hunt. The weather was terrible starting with rain, then sleet, followed by snow. Temperatures ranged fron 37 to 7 degrees. Kept my head warm and dry even in the pouring rain. Great product!!

I purchased a red Stormy Kromer Hat six months ago and I am very pleased with it. It is a really good, high quality, USA made hat and it will easily keep your head warm when the temperatures drop down to the 30's. I have not tried to use the ear flaps, so I can not comment about those.
Every time I take my dog out, I am wearing this hat.
It took me three attempts to get the right sizing that felt good for me.
I measured a little larger than 22 1/2" which should have put me in the 7 1/4 or 7 3/8 sized hat (according to the LLBean Size Chart) however, I ended up going with the 7 1/2 size, as it fit the best.
This is a great Fall and early Winter hat. If the temps get really cold, I'll pull my jacket hood over my hat.
I like this hat so much that I am planing on purchasing a "warmer weather" Stormy Kromer hat.
I would for sure buy this hat again.
P.S. I use a lint roller brush (that has throw-away adhesive strips) to help keep and maintain the hat, which works out great for removing pet hair/human hair, lint, fuss, etc.

5 star product, but nothing is perfect for all situations. I have found that sometimes the bill of the cap gets in the way when I'm in the blind hunting and hunkered down to stay warm. In that situation I tend to be wearing a light weight stocking mask under the hat and a knit hat over the Kromer. Simple solution, wear cap backwards. This might make it sound like the hat is not warm enough. Anyone who has sat around in cold weather understands the value of layering. When doing anything else in cold weather you would heat up to much in other hats. This is the perfect snow shovel / chopping wood / sitting in the car / fall / making a snow man / hunting and stalking / hiking winter cap. Keeps sun and glare down, keeps you the right amount of warm. There are versions of the Kromer that are not wool. They make a lot of noise next to the ear when you look around. Buy wool. FYI bean should offer this in hunters orange, and in that case you should own at least two of these hats if you are a hunter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FoldingKayaker A classic
Some designs stay around for decades because they're just plain good design. The Stormy Kromer hat is a Midwest classic that's been enjoying a renewed surge of popularity with young hipsters but it's been a fixture in the Northern Midwest for over a century because it's simple, warm , and functional.

I recommend these caps. They are warm and comfortable. They are perfect for when it is still too warm for a true winter cap, but cold enough that you need to something to keep your head warm. The ear flaps are helpful on windy days.
