woodrow54 Stormy Kromer
I took this ice fishing in Northern Michigan. The temp was 16º F and the windchill was 0º with 20mph winds. I brought a thick knit winter hat and the Stormy Kromer. After wearing the knit hat, I switched to the SK and was actually warmer! I wore it all day...I am a total believer. I wish I could wear it all year. It is super comfortable, durable, and made with quality materials.
P.S. I was in a fishing tournament...I normally wouldn't go fishing in those conditions!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tom55 Nice, but inconsistent styling
I bought one of these in red a couple of years ago, and it fits perfectly. Keeps my head really warm, but not much for the ears. I recently ordered another one in gray, and it was apparently made from a different pattern. The top was kind of poofy, like an Elmer Fudd hat. It just doesn't look or fit the same as the first one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GTinVA A great cool weather BALL CAP
I just ordered my third cap. This is an excellent, well-made cap for cool or cold weather, with a great old fashioned style and look. I love them for that reason. Considering the price of official MLB caps, this price is just right.
Based on the few negative reviews, let me tell you what it is NOT: heavyweight, sub-freezing-temperature headgear that will keep you warm in every kind of weather. According to the "story," the ear flap was added on by Stormy's wife to keep it from blowing off his head, not to keep his ears warm. LLBean should mention this in their description. I never use the flap myself.
If you keep in mind that this is just a warm wool ball cap that has a different look about it, you should not be disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Examiner Nice hat, shame about the ear flaps.
The Stormy Kromer is well made and true to size. It's quite stylish too ? though that's only a personal opinion. I have been wearing this hat since December. We are now into February, the wind is up and I am now beginning to realize why so many reviewers have mentioned the lack of adequate ear protection. They are for show only and not really fit for purpose. This has the potential to be a 5 star item, but I assume the bean counters at Stormy Kromer have ruined it for the sake of a nickels worth of cloth and a dollars worth of craftsmanship. I just don't get it. Why spoil the ship for a ha'pworth of tar?

This cap is of excellent quality and materials. I had hoped for a heavier fabric, though. It gets COLD here, and I take long walks.

Item is thinner that the pictures show, doesn't fit true to size, has offered no warmth or comfort. Great design in theory, wish more effort was put into a thicker softer fabric, stronger seems, maybe leather trip instead of that cheap nylon. the fabric is so thin you can see through it.

Just purchased this hat and love it so far, at least on the days it's been cold enough to wear it. It runs very true to size in my opinion and seems to be of good quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MrLee Great but runs a tad small
This is my third SK hat and both of my other ones are 7 3/8"s, which is my normal hat size. Neither of them is wool, however, which might explain the sizing issue as this one was just a little tight. I had to bump up to a 7 5/8" but it is backorderd and several sizes/styles are plain sold out. So, if you want one, maybe order a size up and hurry up! All this said, LL Bean is great -- been shopping her for 40+ years!
