Rated 4 out of 5 by fredbyte Great little axe but . . .
I bought this hatchet to mainly cut firewood into kindling where the big axe would be too unwieldy and dangerous. This hatchet does the job, as long as the piece of firewood has no knots. Unlike some who think it is too heavy, I find the weight to be fine. I took away one star because of the ridged handle. I don't mind the valleys, but the ridges are quite pointed. And if your hand doesn't fit the handle perfectly, your hand is going to slip and hit those pointy ridges with each hatchet stroke, which is uncomfortable. Those ridges, in my mind, should be blunted. Oh, yes, I'll also keep in mind that it is a survival hatchet and may come in quite handy in such situations.

Fine steel, with a keen edge (long lasting so far) and nice balance. I foresee a long life for this tool.

This is actually my husband's comments -- I ordered this ax for him for a Christmas gift ... he is thrilled. The quality is excellent. He is section hiking on the Appalachian Trail and can't wait for his next trip to try it out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by pharmacyguy on the fence on this one
Received the survival axe and I must say I am on the fence with this item as to whether I am going to keep it. It is extremely solid but....quite heavy! I bought this to use while working in the woods behind my house doing yard work to clip some occasional limbs as well as splitting some small wood for kindling for our outdoor fireplace. I put the carrier on my belt and feel like I am leaning to one side! I can't imagine hiking with this on your belt loop all day as I feel the weight would be an issue and might actually be uncomfortable. The blade is extremely sharp and it looks like this axe could really stand up to some harsh conditions and hard use but for me I think the weight is just too big an issue. It feels a bit akward in the hand as well and I think again this is due to the heavy weight and shortness of the entire tool. I will use it for a week or two more before I decide if I will keep it. I also agree that the carrier doesn't seem like it was as well made as the axe, but only time will tell

Rated 4 out of 5 by MaineFlyFisher Great for what its designed for.
It is a great designed tool for use as a survival aid. With the full steel tang, you are not going to break it. Its small and compact enough to go anywhere without getting caught up, yet its large enough to do most any chore that comes up while you are out in the woods. It is able to be carried on your side or packed in most any pack. It is however on the heavy side, which if you have weight conserns than you would want to take into consideration. This hatchet has what it takes to stand up to whatever stands in your way.

This hatchet is well made, sleek and sturdy. However, it is heavy so take it into consideration if you have backpack weight concerns.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PotomacMom Handy Little Hatchet!
My husband and I got this for our Survival Kit and tested it out as soon as it arrived. He has fairly big hands and his comment was that it was a good, sturdy mini ax. And then I tried it and although my hands are a lot smaller - it fit me perfectly, too! So, the handle is designed to fit in anyone's hand and feel comfortable. It is a sturdy little tool that is a nice addition to our Kit. A bit heavy but honestly that adds to the rugged and competent feel of the hatchet. Anything flimsier and I would be afraid at hacking at things without the blade coming loose or worse.

I always carry this with me on my 4 wheeler or in my back pack. Quickly cuts wood that is bothersome on trails and also for firewood. It's compact, sharp and a useful tool to have for survival. Highly recommend it!

This is a very durable hatchet and it is extremely sharp right out of the box, it is a bit heavy and the leather cover does show a little wear after a few uses, but its still works fine. Overall its a high quality hatchet.
