Received this for Christmas in 2012 and it is a very well made, comfortable knife. The blade holds a nice, sharp edge and the knife itself is well balanced and comfortable in your hand. I would have given this knife 5 stars instead of 4 but for the very ugly LL Bean logo imprinted on the blade itself. The sheath that comes with the knife looks great and the LL Bean logo on the sheath was well designed and well placed. Putting a second logo on the blade itself was a bit overkill, in my humble opinion, and makes the knife look a little "less than" if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong, I would still recommend this knife to anyone who wants a good quality, all-around good camping knife. I just wish the marketing department didn't get their way on this one in connection with the branding of the blade.

Good handle, we'll balanced knife. Outstanding Buck quality with an even greater warranty from LL Bean. Comes sharp right out of the box, and an outstanding sheath. Will put it to work right away.

by MsKMB Great knife, ugly logo
I was excited to get this knife for my husband who's an avid hunter. After reading the recommendations and getting a friend to verify this would be a good knife for hunting, I decided to buy it. What the picture doesn't show is the ugly L.L. Bean logo on the side of the blade. The logo goes down the length of the blade and is large. The color is charcoal gray.
I understand the company wants to put its logo on everything, but why in the middle of the blade? Maybe on the handle or in smaller text at the intersection of the blade and the handle. If the knife was for me, I'd return it immediately. Once I give the knife to my husband, we'll see if he wants to return it.

I was excited to get this for X-mas and think it's a beautiful knife. I like everything about it except the hideous L.L. Bean logo that ruins the blade. They don't put it in the photo for a reason, it's terrible and now I've got to figure out how to have it removed. It's frustrating because one of the things that I like about the L.L. Bean clothing line is the lack of ugly logos on most of their shirts.
That being said, the staked leather handle is really nice looking.

Buck makes the best knives and they have a lifetime warranty. The stacked leather handle is rare so this make a great collector item for me.

After one year of camping, hunting, and general outdoor use, the blade broke off the handle. I was shocked. I expected better quality from both LL Bean and Buck.

the plan: knife to be used for hiking trips for all purpose duty.
the reality: this knife is such a joy to handle, takes and holds an edge that can be used to shave with, excellent weight and balance, and a perfect example of Buck craftsmanship that i keep it with me at all times.

A great knife, with good leather sheath; can't wait to cut sticks for dogs and marshmellows - not to mention all the other "round camp" duties
