Purchased for my hard flushing spaniel grouse hunting in the thickest and thorniest dead fall cover in Northern Wisconsin. He will go through anything full bore!! Great fit, has held up well to a lot of abuse this season. Would certainly purchase again.

This product worked great from day one. I have a female Brittany and she needed protection from briars and course grasses. The sizing chart was accurate and the skid plate fits great. I have been using it twice a day and she has no issues with running or pointing birds with the skid plate on her.

I have a GSD-Malamute mix who LOVES blizzards. The only downside is her belly freezes and takes hours to thaw. So I bought this chest protector to give her an extra layer of protection from the elements...worked all summer through intense rain storms as well.
The one problem is the length; it's too short. I wish LL Bean made a skid plate that ran 22-24" in length to more effectively cover the chest and soft white underbelly that is prone to scrapes and cuts from underbrush and the elements. My pup could also use an extra inch or two in the webbed straps as they are very tight and dig a bit into her spine.

Great product! I bought first one 7 to 8 years ago for Brittany as he tended to find old fences and posts in fields, as well as every burr! This product lasts and works to keep dog safe as it is built with heavy duty materials and yet it is light weight and allows freedom of movement. Just Bought another for larger English setter who tends to jump over things and we needed to protect him if he comes down on anything sharp . It really pays off out west in the sloughes where errant steel fence posts and tough weeds can really take a toll on a dog. Great value as well . Buy one! Looks like the catalog picture and goes on easily .

This item was easy to fit on my Brittany, requiring only moments to install. My Brittany seems comfortable in the Skid Plate, unlike the booties we tried last year. The Skid Plate does not hinder her movements. My Brittany has very thin hair on her chest, resulting in numerous scratches from our hunting and hiking excursions. However, this item saves her chest and keeps her focused on finding birds. I also found it is useful in keeping snow from irritating her chest.

My yellow Lab's chest and stomach took a beating during the opening of Kansas pheasant season. I ordered the Skid Plate to avoid further damage to her during future hunts this year. Tried it last week, and it works just fine. My advice is to adjust it tight enough to avoid its catching on branches, but not so tight as to restrict movement or chafe as the dog runs. So far, very pleased. Much cheaper than a trip to the vet, and Bean's price is the lowest I've seen from several sources.

Our Springer Benny is a little tank when he is out running in the fields. About a year ago, he had a trauma over his sternum likely from a bad poke with a stick and ended up needing surgery after a seroma ( fluid filled area) developed.
This chest protector covers all his chest and as much of his belly as possible, and gives us some piece of mind that he will not hurt himself like that again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BullGrouse Skid Plate works
The Skid Plate works as advertised. My springer adapted to it immediately and it did not hinder her movement or distract her during a chukar hunt in spiny greasewood/sage habitat. Make sure you measure the dog as instructed before ordering, don't rely on the weight ranges. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the plate doesn't (and probably can't w/o compromising mobility) cover the places (neck/upper leg) where my dogs have suffered fence etc. cuts in the past.
