This chest protector is just what she needed. Her chest kept getting scratched in field. I ordered a large and adjusted it as tight as possible to get the most coverage. She only weighs 50 pounds, but it fits her great. I would definitely recommend it to others.
My puppy Ruby has an all black head and a white body with black ticking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JWDR bonus with straps
have not had chance to use yet (snowed in). but this is very well made and easy to adjust. The straps on the one i received are hunter orange, this is a bonus since the picture shows them black. I have not had anything from LL bean that I would not give a 5 star.

The extra large fit my Weimeriner very well. Well made vest. We have a lot of briers in the south. She is short haired. This should keep her chest and underbelly protected. I chose Blaze orange so I can see her in the woods.

I bought this skid plate about 9 years ago for my dog to wear on hikes during hunting season. I had been tired of vests that would fall apart after a very short time and vests that would never stay properly in place as the dog ran. This skid plate is the perfect solution. I just place it on upside down, with the fabric on her back and buckled under her belly. It never slides off and it has lasted for about 9 years with no noticeable wear (used daily during hunting season). Don't waste money on what are essentially throw away vests. Try this. You won't be sorry.

I found this product to be well made and seems to do the trick HOWEVER, the purpose of the skid plate is to keep brambles, prickers, and what not from cutting or irritating the dogs belly. I found that a lot of sticks, prickers, small stones got in-between the skid plate and my dogs belly irritating her belly almost as bad as not having it. For the average dog walking or playing in a field this would be great. For a 8 hour hunting dog, i don't see how it helps much.

Rated 2 out of 5 by NewYakimacustomer Seems well built - just not big enough
I ordered the largest size available - XL supposedly for 85-105 lb dogs - but it was simply too small for my 105 pound male black lab ( named Dozer for obvious reasons). The item does appear to be well constructed and would likely work just fine for smaller dogs. Can't rate it more than 2 stars due to the sizing issue. It will be returned for refund.

The medium sized Skid Plate is well made and was a good fit for my male Brittany. This chest protector did not hinder his performance while hunting. The 1,000 denier Cordura nylon serves as an excellent barrier from briars and heavy cover.

Just returned from three days of grouse and woodcock hunting in NEK. I bought the skid plate for my Chocolate just before we left. We hunting three full days and he went through and over all kinds cover. The fit was perfect. I feel it really protected his underside. It's short money to protect your significant investment.

by jdhdwill Perfect fit!
Tried it on our 60#, smallish Labrador. It fit perfectly (size=medium). She was kind of right between sizes and we opted for the smaller size to avoid having gaps to get caught on things. She seemed a little concerned about wearing it at first, but we took her outside and threw her training dummy and she forgot she had it on. Sure came in handy when she ran into a barbed wire fence 3 times while hunting! The fabric seems durable, like hunting pants' fabric. Read many reviews of dog vests before deciding on this one and making this purchase. I would definitely recommend it.
