Rated 5 out of 5 by Tbuster Waxed Cotton Down Jacket
I have just put this jacket through one of the most severe winters Pa. has seen in a long time. Sub zero temps. and wind, blowing snow and sleet weeks on end. I spent a lot of time on a open tractor blowing snow and hauling wood. This jacket kept me toasty warm and dry through it all. It is very durable and dependable for long hours spent outside in severe weather. I have one for work and one for casual and all around wear. These jackets are my go to when the weather turns bad.

This is a great warm coat. It is a little heavier than the jackets with the nylon shell, but because of the cotton your purse doesn't slip off your shoulder like it does with the nylon. The only thing I wish it had was one of those "double" type zippers so that you can have the top zipped up and open the bottom part of the jacket if you want to. That's why I gave it the four stars instead of five. I love that it has the snaps on the flap that covers the zipper, since most of the time that's all I use and velcro just doesn't work as well. I am very happy with my purchase.

Arms are a bit longer than usual, but SUPER warm. I no longer fear the polar vortex....

Rated 5 out of 5 by MHNC Toasty in N.C.
got this jacket just in time for a state-wide snow storm in North Carolina. I am very pleased. Temps are in the teens here and this jacket has kept me dry and toasty while playing and working in the snow. Just wearing a polyester under garment shirt. I am a woman, 5'9'', 170 pounds. I bought the men's medium because I have wide shoulders and I wanted the longer material in the back. It is a perfect fit except for the sleeves, which are a couple inches too long. I was expecting that, so no problem for me. I just fold the cuffs up. I highly recommend this jacket!

I had no idea that the jacket cannot be machine washed or dry cleaned until after I bought it (though the cashier tried to tell me). I had thoughts of taking it back after discovering the potential need of reproofing the coat on a yearly basis. However, I like the waxed cotton look and feel. The sleeves are super long which is good for me as I climb trees and am very active in the woods. The jacket is also smokin' hot even on a breezy 20 degree day. I think I will keep it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OSOK My Cold Weather Go-To Jacket!
This jacket has become my "go-to" jacket in any cold/windy weather. I wanted a jacket that gives me the option of bundling up around my neck but I didn't want a hood because I don't like the bulkiness that a hood would bring on days I didn't need a hood. I just wear a knit hat when need be and I never get cold with this jacket. It is super comfortable and warm yet it never makes me feel restricted. It has lined side pockets that I can easily slip my hands into to keep them warm and the front, snap pockets that you can see in the pics in which I keep a pair of gloves just in case. The weather resistant liner makes it a home run and has paid off time after time!

I have owned this jacket for several years and it continues to perform. I have just sent it off for the first time to get it reproofed (rewaxed). Over time, the fabric finish will wear down, especially where there more friction - underneath arms, towards bottom of jacket. This is typical of waxed cotton garments and not a flaw of the jacket. LLBean has a link to a company that will perform this service.
I have worn this jacket is really cold weather - think Patriot games that you would say the fans were nuts to be there - and most recently, to Iceland in January - Very cold and windy! This jacket performed!
I purchased the light brown jacket - its looks great, but after all these years starts to show the dirt from use. Since you can only really wipe it down with warm water (no soap!) it will get a bit darker over time (in the same places where the waxing wears down). My mistake was not reproofing it sooner.
If you take care of this jacket, it will take care of you! Enjoy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by VoyagerMaine Warm and toasty, but....
The sleeves are way too long and this waxed cotton picks up everything.I am constantly brushing it off. Otherwise it is very well constructed and very warm. Take note of the cleaning instructions as well, as this may influence your decision to purchase.

I have always wanted a waxed cotton jacket, and with the price point on this, I could not resist. Plus knowing it would be LL Bean quality pretty much sold me. I seldom buy jackets online because I worry about fit and hate online returns.
I have to say I am totally thrilled with this jacket. I got the Loden color which is dark green-almost black, love it. I don't know why people fuss about the smell- I think it's nice. Everything about this coat is quality. The fabric, the stitching, the cut, the pockets... I love that it is down... It is not bulky at all, but super warm. As far as fit, I am 5'7, 165, and fairly well built. I got a medium and it fits just the way I like- which is a bit roomy. I have plenty of room to layer a sweater. The sleeves may be longish for some people but I have long arms. If you want a more fitted look I'd say order smaller.

Rated 2 out of 5 by BobMcK Sleeves way too long
This was a really nice style jacket but I've never seen an article of clothing mis-sized this badly. The sleeves were two inches too long yet the body and length of the jacket were perfect. I exchanged it for another jacket.
