Rated 1 out of 5 by ThomasF Impossible to clean
I previously bought the lighter color in this vest. Great, warm, comfortable vest. It got dirty after a while and I found it impossible to clean. Can't wash it. Can't dry clean it. Can't use any soap. One reviewer said the darker color did not show dirt as bad so I am trying it. Not hopeful. This waxed cotton looks great, for about a month. After that, it just looks like it needs to be washed, which you can't do. A garment that can't be cleaned is not very useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBeanOnMe XL waxed cotton vest for husband
Boy, does he look GOOD in it! I ordered the brown vest for him and he looks great in it with every combination of clothes (even the most ridiculous..). I love that it keeps him warm while very handsome. I have for myself the XS Misses in dark khaki (and own the full waxed cotton coat in brown). It is a piece of clothing that elevates one's tone (emotionally!) - I am tickled pink when we wear these together on our daily routines. These vests feel good and look awesome.

Very pleased with this vest. Thick, warm pockets, and so far very durable. I have already recommended it to others. You will not be disappointed.

A great vest for warmth, but if there is lint within 30yds, it will end up sticking to this vest..

Rated 5 out of 5 by BkPkBuyer Great quality and excellent fit
My husband had been looking for a vest for a few months and had tried on several. Many were not broad enough in the shoulders. I purchased this vest for Christmas. It is exactly the type, feel and quality he wanted. He was pleased (and surprised) with the gift.

I was happy to see how well made my vest is. Currently it is 8c and with my sweater and vest on I'm one very happy camper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TunaMan Outerwear Down Vest - Quality and Comfort
A true outerwear vest quality constructed for even winter warmth. Heavy-duty zippers and buttons built to last. Being of a thinner frame, a small snugly fits (keeps the core heat in and drafts out) with even a sweatshirt underneath. Initially received as a gift in a large size (typical coat size with sleeves) and khaki color. Returned for a small and dark brown color (hard to keep khaki clean). Great expedited service with only your satisfaction in mind. From the Yooper shores of Lake Mich, Thank you!

Rated 3 out of 5 by DFS2006 Mixed Feelings
I have mixed feelings about this vest. On one hand it's well made and hefty and keeps your midsection warm. I found it to be a bit too bulky though.
I also found that if it was cold enough to need that amount of bulk then I also needed some bulk in the arms, and wearing something bulky under a bulky vest would make me feel very restricted.
But the killer for me was that I only wore it a couple of times and when I took it out of the closet this year it stunk like a dead animal. Unfortunately the only way to clean it is with a damp cloth which did no good. Apparently the fact that it's so weather tight also means that it doesn't breath which can cause a major mold/mildew problem.
I brought it into a LL Bean store to see if there was anything that could be done but there wasn't so they gave me a credit. I bought a parka instead.

I like this vest. Its warm and looks good. The only problems I have with it is its a little bit bulky - I don't wear it without cinching the drawstring a little tighter around my waist and buttoning it up; because of the bulk, its hard to use the zipper; the other thing is the collar is stiff and high so it rubs against the hair on the back of my head.

Rated 4 out of 5 by OlympiaBean Very nice vest, but runs short
I'd been looking forward to receiving this vest, and gleefully extracted it from its shipping bag when received.
I'm borderline tall (6'1") when it comes to clothes. 99% of the time I don't need XLT - and for LL Bean shirts I've found XLT to be too long. So I ordered the XL size (especially because there is no XLT).
Because of it's poofiness this rides high-and-out. So the bottom edge actually raises up about 1.5" from where it would have been were it not stuffed.
So, while this is an excellent vest (well made, looks good, feels great), just beware that if you occasionally foray into the world of tall sizes, then this one definitely isn't for you. Time to experience the legendary LL Bean return policy for the first time...
