After recently acquiring a bird dog puppy, my first since childhood, I had to go shopping for an upland vest. I was agonized over deciding between several $200+ vests for a couple months when my wife's LL Bean Pa'tridge II arrived at the house. Well, one look at it convinced me to order my own. The material and workmanship appeared to be of excellent quality, but the proof would be in how the vest worked in the field. This vest did not disappoint. It carries a load well; distributing weight extremely comfortably, is not too warm and lived through a long thorny hunting season looking next to new. It does not interfere with shooting. This vest is very well thought out. In fact, I wouldn't change anything about except for one minor issue. It can be difficult to load a water bottle back into the water bottle pocket while wearing the vest. I think a small tab of fabric to help locate the opening of the water bottle pocket instead of the rear game bag would help.

I have owned this vest over 10 years. Same design, same buttons, same material, and a bit different coloiring. My favorite piece of gear ove the years. Simply cannot beat the durability and functionality of this vest. Carried more wild pheasant than most could count and pridefully carried the elusive grouse after so many empty flushes. You fail to buy this one and you simply do not want the best.

I looked at several other vendors' vests, LL. Bean appeared to have the best combination of design, materials' quality at a very reasonable price. I was not disappointed.

Overall, I really like this vest. It has many great features and appears to be well made with quality materials. The only downside is that the fabric is a little noisy, but while bird hunting, it's really not a big deal. I recommend this vest.

Construction and durability of vest is impeccable. Had to return this one due to size issue but I'll be reordering as soon as more are in stock. About the only suggestion I have for Bean is to add a pocket behind the shooting patches for inserting a recoil pad; however, I simply sewed one in for my brother and he loves it...works great! One of the best pouches for real bird hunters, too--forget those other over-priced brands we won't name!

Nice vest. The Nylon seems impervious to anything you are willing to walk through. That said, I am glad it is a vest and not a jacket as the material does not breathe at all. Love the water bottle pockets and the hidden pockets inside. A set of hand warmer pockets would fit nicely just above the shell pockets. Nevertheless, I look forward to years of service from this vest.

I am an avid upland hunter and have had several vests, this is by far the most comfortable. Other vests seem to be overly complicated with more pockets, tubes, and straps that all hamper speed and movement. This vest is, as many others have mentioned, very comfortable even fully loaded with shells, water, and dog gear. The ripstop fabric is also very thick and durable. At first I was reluctant about a partial mesh back, as I feared it might snag easily on brush or be uncomfortable. Both of these concerns where put to rest after my first trip out. Again as others mentioned the buttons are a bit difficult with gloves on, but I have no fear of them falling off as they are very secure. All in all a great vest that seems to be able to stand up to years of abuse from heavy cover.

This will be the last hunting vest I'll ever need to purchase as it will out live me.
I used this for the first time quail hunting last week and it proved to be top quality with all the features one needs.

I purchased this vest back in October before a hunt, as I couldn't find the vest I had been using for years. This one has become my new favorite, especially for cooler days.
The vest is comfortable and does not bind or ride up on my when shouldering my shotgun. I like the fact that the buttons on the pockets are taped on, not sewn, so there is less of a chance of one falling off. Also, there is only one button per pocket, so it is easy to access your spare shells/gear without unbuttoning, though magnetic closures would be nice as well.
The game pocket is large, and will easily hold a limit of large birds with room to spare. It zips open on three sides to allow easy cleaning. I feel that it distributes weight well.
I wear a large fleece, so I purchased a large vest and it fits fine over layers.

Blew out my old grouse vest, and tried the Pa'tridge vest this year. Worked great. Its a little heavier, but also more durable. Game pockets easy to access. Ample room for layers of clothes. Distended buttons good. Love side buttons in front pockets and NO plastic tubes
