Rated 5 out of 5 by NateF Better fit & price than Sperry Top-Siders
Love these, I bought the classic looking "canyon" colour. Great for dress casual outings and boating of course. I have slightly wide feet and thought I would need to buy wide fit or go up 1/2-1 size in the regular fit but that was not the case. They are true to size and there is no need to adapt your sizing. Any other brand of boat shoes I have tried on before have fit very narrow but these are nice and comfortable with or without socks, though I would not recommend anything thicker than a typical cotton sock but that is to be expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by VAFlyfisher540 Best Boat Shoe!
After going through two pairs of Sperry Topsiders in five years I was looking for a replacement. I was considering upgrading to the more expensive Sperry Gold Cups when I saw the Casco Bays. After reading through the reviews I was at a loss for what size to wear but I went true to size (10 1/2 for me) and I'm glad I did. Right out of the box they fit perfectly. It should be noted I'm wearing these with no socks so you might consider going a half size bigger if you're planning on wearing socks. Also reading the reviews I was a little leery of the construction of these shoes compared to the Sperrys I was used to, for those of you in the same place as me, worry not!! These are the most comfortable, easiest to break in pair of boat shoes I've ever owned and I've had a pair consistently since high school. Right out of the box they were comfortable, no running or chafing anywhere. These shoes have a quality construction that's immediately apparent and I personally really like the look of this leather compared to the shinier almost plastic look that some have. Also the insole L.L. Bean uses is superior to other brands. It doesn't go all the way through the shoe, probably 3/4, but it's one piece and seems to not be going anywhere so far! For my money these are the best boat shoes out there from now on!

Rated 5 out of 5 by averyloyalcustomer Simply The Best Boat Shoe
Purchased a pair a year ago and just received a second pair for "going to Church on Sunday". I've tried all boat shoes available from the name brands and ALL more expensive than these boat shoes. The best feature is the ability to simply step into the shoe; I do not need to wrangle with the back of the shoe to pull over my heel. In my opinion, there is no better boat shoe for the price...hand-sewn. Never, ever have had an issue wearing barefoot...I find simply bizarre any review comment about this shoe "chaffing the foot to the point of bleeding"...and I am NOT a L.L. Bean employee...wish I was...

Rated 1 out of 5 by NavySailor No Good for Bare Feet
have worn Sperry classic leather topsiders for decades. Bought these to save money. Tongue (top part that goes over top of foot and under the top lacing) of these are NOT the same as the Sperry shoe - the tongue is NOT one piece. This shoe has an added, separate piece sewn across, under the top where the laces are tied. This seam chafes the foot to the point of bleeding. I should have heeded the numerous other comments from previous buyers. If you wear these like I had hoped to (bare feet), you'll probably regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BoiseBoy Very comfortable, navy color darker than expected
These are great shoes and very comfortable out of the box, pretty much no breaking in required. The sizing is a bit large, so I would recommend sizing down 0.5 from your sneaker size or even 1 size down if you plan on going sockless.
From my experience, the navy leather was darker than the color shown on the picture, almost to the point of being black. In addition, the white soles have a tendency to get dirty and acquire scuff marks on the sides, which can be somewhat difficult to remove.
But otherwise these are really comfortable, tasteful, high-quality boat shoes. Definitely would buy again!

Rated 2 out of 5 by 47yrbeaner Very nice, but left shoe larger than right
Through a mishap in shipping, I ended up with two pairs of these boat shoes. In both pairs the left shoe was larger than the right one which fit normally. I returned one and kept the other as I needed boat shoes right then.
I tried using an insole liner, but that did not solve the problem. I've not had this problem with a number of pairs of LL Bean shoes and boots. Perhaps it's just a fluke in the manufacturing of one batch of these. Otherwise they seem perfectly fine. I've since returned the second pair with a second note pointing out the discrepancy.

Rated 5 out of 5 Well made, no-nonsense boat shoe, fits big
Just picked up a pair of these guys yesterday and I love them. Great build quality and classic styling for cheap -- just what I was looking for.
I've had Sperry's before, and the insole (heel pad) was not well made. It rolled up near the ball of my foot (very uncomfortable), and came unstuck after about a month. The insole on the Casco Bays seems very well made, and I'd be surprised if that ended up happening with this pair.
The only thing odd about the Casco Bays is that they fit pretty big. They come in a EE, which is great because I have really wide feet, but as a result I had to size all the way down to a 9.5 EE to get the fit I was looking for (I usually wear a 10.5 EE). I wear my boat shoes without socks, and I like to let the leather mold to my foot for a snug fit.
I'm sure sizing will be different for everyone, but don't be shocked if an oddly small size is what ends up working for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mervich Navy/Chocolate Casco Bay Boat Mocs
These are really beautiful mocs and, for me, comfortable right out of the box. I initially thought the navy was suede?but suede isn't full grain leather. To my complete satisfaction, the leather appears to be soft oiled nubuck?both the navy and the chocolate. The laces contrast tastefully. I have several pair of Casco Bay Mocs and these are my new favorites. Great shoes, great fitting, great looking, great price, great retailer?where's the down side?

Rated 4 out of 5 by thepro Nice looking but too big
Just got them for Christmas and tried them on but was sadly disappointed that they are too big. I wear a 10.5 in street shoes and 11 in boots. I have had several pairs of Sperry Docksiders and was disappointed in the last pair. the fit was OK but the sole cracked and the stitching came apart after about 2 yrs. These appear to be better made but are at least 1/2 size too large. Will return and hope they fit.

If you are looking for a shoe with some arch support - this is not for you. Absolutely no support for arch. Also the shoe felt like I was walking on cardboard. Not impressed. Exchanged for the LL Bean Lakeside.
