Rated 4 out of 5 Pie iron
NIce heavy cast iron. Have not used it as it is a gift for Christmas. The shipping leaves a little to be desired as the box was shredded taped and crushed. Luckily this was not an easily breakable item.

This is a great tool provided it's seasoned and well taken care of, which mostly means - don't leave it in the rain.
Several applications of shortening over a camp fire put a great non-stick coating on these heavy duty irons, which can then be cleaned with the swipe of a paper towel.
Best recipe: puff pastry and - - - anything!
Forget the rest
(hear me Coleman?)
these are the best.

one iron fell apart first time it was used. Other iron set out by campfire for two nights and it began to rust. Worst product I've ever purchased from LL BEAN!

We're hooked! This is our first one and we used it this past Memorial Day Weekend.
We were brave and for our first time we chose campfire chicken quesidilla's! Chicken taco mixture, salsa & cheese between two tortillas. Then top with extra salsa & sour cream. The first one was burnt to a crisp! Once we got the hang of it tho we were off! They were delicious and very easy to do. We can't wait to try other recipes.
Do follow instructions and season it first. Before you use heat the pie iron in the fire/coals as a pre-heat. We think the trick is timing and figuring out how long to leave in the fire/coals depending on what your cooking. This was best 1-2 minutes on each side and it was golden brown. It was easy, fun and delicious. We go camping 2-3 times a year and this is a great addition for meals. Why didn't I get one earlier. . .?

Rated 5 out of 5 by HoneyBadger22 Wish I could afford one for my whole GS Troop!
I purchased these out of nostalgia to use on our family camping trip - I loved them as a kid but couldn't find them at our local stores. Season them well w/oil before you go - they arrive w/some residual wax from the casting of the iron. They are heavy so had to help the kiddo but she loved making her own. Easy cleanup - burn off residue & wire brushed them clean in 2 seconds. We wiped ours down w/oiled napkin to prevent rusting when storing. Wish I could purchase for my whole GS Troop.. Great gift for anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gneiss Hit at Camp
Have been using pie irons for over fifty years they are a great hit at camp for making sanwiches. I enjoy nothing better on a cold evening to sit in front of a camp fire and have a hot sanwich with a cup of soap. My kids enjoyed them and now my grandchildren. I have used all types, these hold up the best.

I bought this to take to Girl Scout camp. We decided to use it when we got home for dinner. After reading the directions we realized it takes about an hour to season it and that we would not be cooking with it that night. We used it last week at a picnic and it worked great. I found out you need it to be hot when you start or the bread burns. I can't wait till this weekend when we are going to Girl Scout camp and using it for lunch and dinner 2 days in a row. I found a lot of recipes on line for the pie iron.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ILFlynn Evidence is in the taste
The evidence is in the taste. The taste is what it should be. The campfire iron produces toasted sandwiches just as I remember them. The children also love them as I did when I was their age. A couple of minor issues which should not detract from anyone interested, the clasp for the irons could be tighter. The metal on the handle stems do not appear to be the same as the pie iron itself. If put under intense heat then I am not sure that they will be as durable. As stated, small issues (e.g. if putting the handle stems in heat then they are in the wrong place). This product brings back a lot of good memories.
