Rated 3 out of 5 by bauser9 3 inches short
The pants waist was suppose to be 42, could not even come close to being closed was 3-4 inches short of being able to close. Just not made for short stocky people. Long and lanky probably work good. This XL only had a 38-39 waist.

Great pants/shorts. Keeps the sun out, keeps your skin dry. Runs a little tight, so buy one size up. The belt loops could be a little closer together towards the fronts, and as a result, the belt feels a little loose/sloppy. Other than that, I would not change a thing.

These well made, lightweight zip-off pants are very suitable for hot, humid locations but I find myself wearing them even when I'm working around the house and yard. They stay wrinkle free and have helped me to travel much lighter than I ever did in the past. I can wear them as often as I like thanks to the easily washable fast drying mesh liner. With the legs zipped off the shorts are just the right length as they fall about four inches above my knees for a cool, comfortable feel. I have two pairs now; one with zip-off legs and one regular pair.

Please Make in a long medium!! pretty well sums it up not all tall guys are portly also I'm 6-2 in good shape and wear a 32-34 waist but a 33" leg my wife says 34" but 33 will do, the 31" zip legs are too short. Be a sport make them longer---PLEASE.

Just returned from hiking the Tour Du Mont Blanc in the French, Swiss and Italian Alps. Wore these as shorts on the trail and with legs on for traveling and in the evening. Really pleased with the fit and durability. Having all the different pockets are very useful. Legs are easy to remove and put back on. Wish L.L. Bean made them in Navy blue and black.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MrShorts be careful of sizing
when ordering pants without an exact waist size number and just a choice of S,M,L etc. be sure that you can fit into their range comfortably. Because if you have to return an item, free returns do not apply.

These were recommended by a friend. My husband loves these. They are very comfortable, look nice and are protection from the sun. They are of nice quality in weight and style. Wish they came in more than 2 colors.

Rated 3 out of 5 by OldManbytheSea My Waist Got Larger?
Sizing information said XL was 41/42 waist. It was closer to a 40. I had to send them back.
Otherwise they were exactly what I expected except for the straight legs and lack of lower hem zippers so you can get out of them without taking off your hiking boots.
The inner lining (much like a men's bathing suit's) was a surprise and would be inconvenient if one needed to relieve oneself on the trail. But if your waist size is all right with the slightly tighter fit, this was a good buy with the small discount and all.
Happy with the ease of return and free shipping all around.
I'll be back.

I love the fit and they are exceedingly comfortable. I particularly like the short length of the shorts which means the location of the zipper is well above the knee.

Rated 1 out of 5 by RudyV XL for whom?
I have a pair of pants similar to these that I bought from Bean some 10 years ago and they have lasted all this time. They are an XL men's size. I can slide them on and off with out having to unzip them.
Those delivered last week were a true heartbreak. I was looking forward to wearing them on a trip to Northern California, but the XL size I had received wouldn't even let me close the pants to a 5 inch gap. There has to be a mislabeling, or the manufacturer's idea of XL is for Lilliputians!
