Rated 5 out of 5 by SurfSailSnow Great for travel in the tropics
Just back from a surf trip in Nicaragua... I now consider these pants to be essential gear. Perfect for staying cool and comfortable in the evenings when the temps are still 80+ but you need to keep the mosquitoes off of you. Incredibly lightweight, and feels cooler than even wearing shorts because you don't stick to anything. Had my doubts about the built in mesh briefs (not my style), but they are a key part of why these pants work. Easy breezy, dudes! Ordered another pair immediately upon returning home, and will live in these sailing and fishing at night next summer in the northeast.

I need lightweight, fast drying pants that have lots of pockets for travel, fishing, and hiking. The Tropicwear pants are perfect especially for those of us in south Florida. Having large pockets that either zip or have velcro closures are also a bonus for safeguarding my wallet, passport and more. When fishing, I can carry extra bags of tackle as well in the deep pockets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ortega Good, could be even better
These are comfortable pants, with a smooth feel, not slick like some low quality nylon pants. The size is accurate. Especially good are the rear pocket zippers and the hidden pocket zipper.
What would make these pants even better is 1) delete the key hook in the left front pocket; 2) delete the cargo pockets with the funny flaps that don't open wide, and 3) most important, delete the mesh brief liner, useless with boxers and redundant and confining with briefs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Keepermom Well-constructed and great for hot weather
Not just great for hiking, etc., but also for looking good when the weather is hot and humid and shorts just don't fit the occasion. Written on behalf of my spouse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WaltB Cool, light, comfortable
I ordered these pants for summer hiking. They are light and cool to wear in hot weather. They keep the sun and bugs off your legs too. They're easy to wash and dry quickly. And, they pack down very small. I didn't really care for the belt, but that is just me.
So, overall I really like these pants and would recommend them for hot weather hiking and travel.

Appreciate the web for backpacking - thus avoid underwear issues - quick drying - useful for travleing - if use is for casual attire not good choice but if need when out in wilderness for a few days works perfect - I am 33-35 waist and needed medium as large was a bit too big - got two pair

Pants are comfortable and cool in Miami weather, once the built in underwear has been cut out. The built in underwear is a silly and uncomfortable feature that I found entirely unnecessary. Unless we're doing something that gets us really sweaty and dirty i think most guys will wear a pair of pants more than one time, but most of us change underwear every day.
Also, the cargo pockets don't serve a purpose except maybe to make a fashion statement. The pants would look better out of the dryer without them. Also, the weight of anything put in those pockets (like car keys) makes them distracting and less comfortable.
Best feature is the material, which is light and seemingly durable. I ordered one pair, and after i cut out the built in briefs, i liked them enough to get two more. They're great boat wear in the tropical sun.

I purchased the Sandstone color for our cruise through the British Isles in the late Spring. At the end of the cruise we rented a car and toured Southern England for close to two additional weeks while staying at B&B's often for just a single night. This made it particularly important to effectively manage our clothing and I found these Tropic Wear pants really made that easier for me. The mesh liner turned out to be ideal as I could wear the pants all day and give the liner a quick wash in the evening. They dried very quickly and were ready to wear again as needed. It was a bit like wearing a swimsuit with legs but I couldn't believe how comfortable they were and how easily I adjusted to them. The pants are well made, travel well without wrinkling and take up very little room. I'm about 5' 10 inches tall with about a 37/38 inch waist and I found the large size fit me perfectly.
I'm ordering another pair in the Dark Driftwood color and will take fewer pairs of pants with me on my next vacation as they worked so well for me.

I returned the tropic wear pants were too short. I'm a tall guy, wish LL Bean specified the length.

Things that I didn't care for - 1. the built-in underwear, 2. the fit seemed a bit small to me (may have been the underwear). 3. the color had too much of a yellow base in it, 4. Placement of the cargo pockets looked okay in the pictures, but turned out to be not practical for me.
