I bought a pair of these type of shorts about 4 years ago. Love them. I bought a pair this year and the waist is HUGE. These will not work for me anymore. How sad is that? The material is nice, but the same size is NOT the same anymore.

Finally--shorts with enough pockets. There is even one with a place to attach keys inside. Elastic at waist helps with fit especially if your waist is smaller in relation to hip size. The belt is attractive. I think a small slit on each leg at hem line would allow more give when sitting down.

I bought the light stone color and I found the pants to be made of a very light material. They fit great and I bought a medium that fits good, true to size. I will get the light blue pair as well.

I have a hard time finding shorts that fit comfortably but not snugly.
Being petite adds to the difficulty. The petite size was a bit uncomfortable but the regular 4 was perfect. The material is lightweight and perfect for hiking or just warm weather wear. I bought a khaki and light blue pair. Love them!

These are very well made and have great pockets, but they are too short, and I'm only 5'3". Also, I think the elastic in the sides kind of makes them look bunched up on the sides. They run a little bit big. They may be fine for someone else, but just didn't look that great on me.

I'm sure these shorts are fine for many people. I am long-waisted and I strongly prefer pants that have waistbands at or slightly above my waist. ("Waist", to me, is about 1/2 inch above the navel.) On me, the waist on these Tropicwear shorts is at the navel and the waist-to-crotch length is too short. I will not wear pants that touch the crotch. These, in size Large, do so on me, and I find it very uncomfortable. So, I returned them. I have been searching for shorts for adults for over 3 years and have finally found them. I can't say enough about the quality, the fit, the look and the feel of these shorts.
As soon as I tried them on, I immediately ordered 2 more pair (just wish they came in black, navy or a sage green). I was so sick of recent products from other high end sports lines that sit below your hipbones instead of at your waist; that don't hide your underwear and have an inseam made for a 10 year old!
Thank you LL Bean, you have saved my sports life! I am an active 80 year old and if you follow the size chart carefully these shorts will fit like a dream. I have a somewhat narrow waist compared to my hips and the well made adjustable belt solves the problem perfectly. Buy them-they are worth every penny.

While I haven't had a chance to wears these shorts yet, I'm already loving them! Plenty of pockets for stowing must have items like keys, a small wallet, and lip balm for those days when you just don't want to be bothered with a bag. The included belt is a nice touch; the material certainly looks like it will dry fast; and the fit is fantastic. I'm a 14 and ordered large which gives me plenty of room to move and tuck in a shirt, if I wish. Stylistically, these are very reminiscent of the old Bean cotton canvas hiking shorts that were a staple of my high school summers back in the 70s. Been searching for something like this for years, and here they are! Thanks, Bean! (Only complaint is the Dark Driftwood isn't as dark as it looks on-line. More a dark khaki than a true brown.)

Very excited to receive these shorts. I am 5' 8" and about 162 lbs, small waist and fuller hips/rear. Ordered Medium based on waist chart but now need to go to Large instead. The material and look of the shorts is wonderful. There is no stretch so they are not forgiving for pear shapes. I really hope the Large works because they are just what I wanted in a short for hiking.
