I have 3 of these covers & my 4 large dogs have managed to destroy one totally & put a good sized hole in another. They get to chewing on bones & don't know where to stop sometimes. But they are nice looking & wear well otherwise.

My dogs, two small ones - 12lbs each, have scratched holes in the fleece side just from normal dog behavior - digging and scratching when "making their bed". The denim side is much more durable - but not very warm in winter.

We just purchased our 3rd Bed in 12 years. If it wren't for a dog that likes to dig I am sure they would last longer. My only complaint is that with each purchase the monogram of his name gets smaller and smaller. It is now at the point that you can barely see it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HereInOC Wonderful XL Dog Bed!
We've had this exact dog bed outside for over 5 years. It was put on top of something sharp and got ripped (our fault) and now needs to be replaced. The sprinklers hit it, it's baked in the sun, etc. on a daily basis and other than the rip it's held up great. I could just replace the cover and use the bedding inside - but after 5 years my dog deserves a whole new bed! Wouldn't get one from any other place other than LL Bean!

doglover100 Best Dog Bed Ever!
I have been a long time LLBean fan. When we brought home our new puppy, I knew I could count on LLBean to provide a durable, well made product, especially for puppy use. I would highly recommend purchasing one size smaller than suggested. Our new puppy is destined to be 100lbs, but we purchased the large instead of the XL that his weight suggested we purchase. As you can see in the picture below, he has a lot of room to grow into it and I can even lay next to him on it. I'm glad we didn't get the XL. The best part about this dog bed is that you can take off the cover, wash it and it DOESN'T shrink. It fit perfectly back on the cushion after I pulled it out of the dryer.
High five to LLBean for making such a great dog bed! I would recommend it to any new puppy owner!

Didn't have this fleece cover for more than one week before it got a tear in the fabric. Once the hole was there, my dog shred it to pieces in 10 minutes (and my dog weighs 17 lbs!). Can't believe how flimsy the fleece is. Very disappointed. Sent it back for refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ArtySpice comfy, holds up
Bought this *years* ago and am finally seeing some wear, which is totally acceptable given the number of dogs that have used this thing and the hundreds of times I've washed it. My only request for Bean: please offer it in a red plaid! (So pretty with black dogs.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by EJHC The other family bed in our house
I bought this bed with the fleece top over 10 years ago. It is Loved by all the four legged members of our family. Night after night, the bed is slept on by not only my dog that I bought it for, but often with her sister and a cat or two. It is only now, after years of wear and tear, and many many washing, it is showing a little wear. This has become a great purchase and a bargin to boot!

Have two large dogs that will share the round bed. Found the fleece top after several years and many washings not to hold up. Overall I do like the option of the fleece top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by VikkiA Sturdy, Long-Wearing Bed
I bought this bed in 2000 for my 14 lb pooch. He continues to use it daily/nightly in the bedroom. The green plaid pile top is turned face-up during the cold weather months and during the warmer months I flip it over to the cooler denim.
The cover's been washed 6 - 10 times a year for 9 nine years without any wear and tear. The zipper is installed well and is strong. The fabric is sturdy and hasn't thinned out. The fleece top has only faded a tiny bit and the denim as faded like any comfortable pair of jeans would do after years.
My dog loves to 'dig' his bed before he goes to sleep. He really goes at that fabric with his front paws scratching with such speed on his bed that his paws are a blondish blur of fur---still no damage.
I liked this bed so much that I purchased a rectangular one about 2 years after this one for the living room. Same awesome quality.
By the way.....cats love the smaller bed, too, especially the cozy, fleece top.
