I just got this bed, my dog loved it and squeezed into his crate. He chewed a hole in it the first night. NOT TOUGH ENOUGH. I also think it is too expensive for the type of insert, etc. Sewing on the cover is nice..but fabric not tough enough.

These are nice beds but are not sized for crates. They are not long enough. There is one company that makes 90% of the crates available for sale, why not size them for that?

The denim dog-bed covers are exactly as described. They fit perfectly and are made of heavy-duty, sturdy material. A perfect replacement for my worn-out covers.

I had to purchase a replacement cover because the zipper broke on our other cover. The same day I put this on the dog bed, my dog ripped a hole in the top. Very disappointed in the quality.

by kctrigirl Don't buy if your dog is a heavy chewer!
I was so excited to get this bed. After reading the reviews, I thought this might finally be the bed that our dog wouldn't destroy. We had it for 48 hours and there is a huge rip in it already. We purchased the solid denim bed. The material seemed tough and the embroidering was beautiful, but we are now back to the drawing board. :(

by lunamiela Good enough for a great dane!
I adopted a 140 pound great dane female earlier this year and she quickly went on to destroy two dog beds. Given llbean's great guarantee policy and customer service, I decided to buy a large fleece-top bed for her since we live in the Midwest. She initially tried to destroy it as well but was not successful! She now loves her bed and retreats to it whenever she needs a break from my young boys. I have even washed both the bed and the cover in the washing machine on delicate and placed them in the dryer on the delicate setting as well (not recommended by the directions but I had to wash them), and they have both come out looking as good as new. We like the bed so much that we just got her a second bed for Christmas so that she has one downstairs as well. She fits perfectly on the large size bed! Highly recommend this bed for great danes!

Our puppy took to the fleece cover as soon as it hit the floor. We have it four weeks and it seems very durable. A periodic vacuuming keeps it looking new and causes it no damage. The dog even invites his buddy to stretch out along side him.

I too have ordered many dog beds and covers through Bean over the years. I have always been satisfied with the quality, however since they reduced the size of the zipper, it has been very difficult to get the mattress in and out. I have the therapeutic mattresses which are even thicker and more unwieldy. I certainly will be looking for other options in the future...

by tidoandsophie Poor quality
I purchased a dog bed years ago from L.L. Bean and it has held up great. We got another dog, so we bought another bed. I am very unhappy with how much the quality if the bed has changed. I have had to sew the newer bed many times. (My dogs do not chew on the beds) The quality of the cover and insert is very poor. I am very disappointed. I attached a picture of the two beds. As you can see the newer bed has a worn spot in the middle. All that is left in that area is strings of the fabric.

I (and the dogs I've had over 25+ years) have always liked their Bean beds but things changed for the worse some time back when the cover became difficult to take off and (especially) put on because of poor zippers and a smallish opening. I just ordered a new cover, however, and was delighted to see a much sturdier zipper that looks like it will last much longer than the few months one of the old ones did and a larger opening. I haven't washed it yet so am withholding last star just in case. So far so good though and thanks for listening to me and the other complainers. Of course, if the dog had her druthers I'd never remove to wash in the first place
