I was disappointed but we are making it work. We bought an ext lg bed for our Newfoundland a few years back. I decided to buy a new center. So I ordered the rd ext lg. This is larger than our cover which is still in great shape, btw, and so I had to really work to get the new refill in and it does not lie flat because the inside is bigger.

This is my 3rd LL Bean dog bed. The first was purchased nearly 13 years ago and - believe it or not - is still in use! You absolutely cannot beat the value and quality. I don't understand why some people have given it negative reviews. I am purchasing the insert to replace a HORRIBLE one included with a "big box store" brand dog bed. (I like the cover so I'm keeping it.) Never will I make the mistake of purchasing such an inferior product from an otherwise reputable store. Stick with the LL Bean bed. Like me, you'll be happy you did!

Chipetas bed was oner 9 years old and was in need a new one. It was great to be able to get one that fits the cover. She has developed arthritis and the mattress insert is wonderful for her. Her bed goes with her everywhere and the replacement one is fantastic for her and she loves it!!

I have three dogs, husky, pit bull and wonderful mutt mix. All three love this bed, expecially my 15 year old arthritic mutt.

I have bought multiple beds throughout the years for my neo mastiffs. My male and female sleep on one extra large together! That is Over 300lbs!! They last forever, I like to get a new filler once a year due to their size. Do not machine wash the filler (made that mistake before) and to keep the cover lasting for years... Machine wash and hang dry. I love the plain denim circle ones myself.

i have several of the llbean dog beds and needed to replace one of the inserts. my dog loves his beds! i love that there is an option to purchase the insert only as the cover was still in great shape!

This was a replacement mattress for a dog bed we purchased 15 years ago.

Not only does my 90 pound golden retriever love this product, the cat in the house keeps trying to take it over. This bed always has an animal in it. Both of them love the deep sides which work great as a pillow.

These beds last forever and my dogs love them. Instructions indicate these are to be "spot cleaned" which doesn't mean you can throw them in the laundry. They will last forever if you follow the instructions.
