Rated 5 out of 5 by Maxbest Great buy...
Was looking for something to pull on to wear to with jeans to keep the chill of a Sydney, Australia winter at bay. I found it in these sweaters. The last time I wore something similar was in my military service, some 36 years ago. Was looking for something similar and I found it here at LL Bean. Wear with a thermal shirt (polypropylene or Merino) underneath, throw on a beanie and scarf, you are good to go. Very warm. And comfortable. So good in fact, I ordered another one practically straight away, in a different color of course. Fit was good, I am fairly straightforward as far as fit goes. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DLF63 Best Sweater You Can Buy for NE Hunting
The L.L. Bean name is synonymous with quality hunting clothes from Katadin Maine to the Blue Ridge Mountains, I've Deer and Bear hunted in these sweaters for 35 years. Still hunting or in a tree stand they keep the wind out and the body warmth in. It's 100% wool and packs well- good price too. It is hard to find this sweater and Thanks LLB for keeping it in the starting lineup.
Also looks great with a quality blue blazer and oxford.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BJK727 Awesome Sweater!!
Bought the black one last year and the sable heather one this year. The fit is spot on, very well-made and is one durable and warm sweater. Hope L. L. Bean will keep this style for as long as possible I will definitely get another one in the future. Thanks for the fast shipping also. Keep up with the nice quality!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by flyboy61 Great sweater, with one minor persnickety thing...
I have worn and loved Commando sweaters for at least 25 years. As expected, this one is warm and well-made, and the sizing, (XL) is spot on. The color, Navy Heather is very attractive. I am 6'1", 220 lbs, with 35-36"+ arms. and the sleeves are long enough!
Worn with a turtleneck, with my field jacket and liner over, good to about the mid-teens.
One minor point, which is not enough to reduce my rating to a 4: the sleeve patches just barely cover the point of my elbow. On my old, (other brand) real commando sweater, the patches continue up my arm at least 2-3 inches beyond the point of my elbow, a feature which I do appreciate, and find useful.
.Extending the patches would be a minor detail, and I recognize this is a "fashion commando" sweater, but is something I think would would increase the durability of an already excellent product..If it increased the cost $.50, I wouldn't mind at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by newbiemountaineer Warm
Thicker and more substantial than your average wear-with-jeans crew sweater. Not as heavy as a traditional Norwegian sweater, but really nice and warm. Great for an office in an old building with a heater that doesn't quite keep up with the negative temps outside! As for fit, the large (regular length) is great. I'm 6'1" and 195. I thought about getting the Long, but I'm glad I went with the regular. Even the regular seems just a bit on the long side -- probably just enough over-long to hedge against any wash-related shrinkage.

Rated 2 out of 5 by StrawberryBlondeGirl Great in all aspects except length - (too long)
Color and texture and warmth are great. As a "small" person with regard to sizes, was glad to find the sweater fit snuggly around shoulders neck and waste, but the arms are very long and cover my hands and the torso goes down past my butt. The size "S" should stand for "stick" and not "small".

I now own two of these... incredibly warm and comfortable. Considering a third. Perfect on cool Fall or Winter days, and very effective when used as a layer under a jacket. Highly recommended.

I love the look of this sweater, and received one as a Christmas gift. The sweater seems to be made of quality materials. Usually, I can rely that LL Bean sizes are realistic-XL means it fits a pretty big guy. However, this sweater was like a sausage skin, extremely tight and uncomfortable. I did not return it, but gave it to a buddy who is 5' 11" and about 170 lbs, and it fits him pretty much perfectly. Anyway, be aware of the sizing, or see if you can try one on in-store before buying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SyrenSong Great Substitute for the Military Version
My husband wanted the military wooly pully, like he had when he was in the service. As those are rather difficult to find, and even harder to find new, I purchased LLBean's version. He LOVED it! I'd heard that these sweaters run small, so I was a little worried about the size. But it fit beautifully and was exactly what he wanted.

Rated 4 out of 5 OK but not like my previously purchased sweater
I purchased a commando sweater about twenty years ago and still own it and wear it. It developed a couple of moth holes last summer which I repaired but I decided to buy an new one. The new model is significantly lighter in weight, not nearly as closely knitted and a shade or two different in color. The wool on the new one is a bit like rag wool but this might just be the looser knit. Its not as warm as the old version either. However, the new sweater because of its lighter color and looser knit looks less military and might be more appropriate for indoor wear. I would recommend this sweater; its not as good as it used to be, but then what is?
