First off, L.L. Bean knows their stuff & how it should be made. Winter people know how to make winter items. My family has been using L.L. Bean for a long time, but these boots are my first purchase of my own L.L. Bean items.
Living in Wisconsin, we have hard, harsh, freakin' cold winters. Lots of black ice on the ground & as a city dweller, the streets are either frozen, covered in salt, covered in snow, or all three.
These boots rock. Solid construction, obviously hand-sewn and carefully inspected. There are not light in weight, but not too heavy, however, the weight lends to the traction of the bottom of the shoe and provides a better 'grip' in the winter. Water-repellent and pretty much snow secure, these guys stand up to the nastiest of conditions. The design is classic and timeless, and as a women in her mid-twenties, I find the look very charming and 'clean' -- basically, I don't feel that the style looks 'ugly', in fact, since its such a classic cut, these look better than a lot of the 'fashion' snow boots you see as of late.
Just a few tips and notes before you purchase:
1. These weight more than an average shoe -- so don't be surprised. However, the weight is beneficial in being sure-footed.
2. The shearling in my boots is slightly more yellow than pictures, not quite custard colored - but close. Doesn't look bad at all, but should be noted.
3. If you have narrow, slender feet WITH boot socks on, go for your normal size and order a narrow. If your feet look larger w/ socks, go for your normal size but try a wide. These fit true to size for me, even with boot socks.
4. The tongue is not sewn along the side of the boot -- in other words, its a normal tongue you would find in any other shoe. This CAN let snow in if you don't lace up correctly. Remember to do so. Some people might find this a problem (say, if you're used to the tongues in Sorrels) , but this hasn't happened to me yet.
5. As with all winter shoes, remember to condition and oil regularly. Its real leather, so you do need to give 'em some love.
6. Order thicker, longer laces. Personally, makes me feet more secure. Nothing wrong with the laces they give you, but for a more secure fit get some higher quality laces, especially if you will live in these boots for winter.
Bottom line: Get them! Probably one of the best winter boots out there with an extremely reasonable price considering the quality.

i ordered these boots one size smaller than my normal 8 and they fit perfectly with medium weight socks. And I received the boots within four days of placing my order. Perhaps because this is mid summer. The boots are very comfortable right out of the box and will not require breaking in. The laces are a tad short, but I do not foresee a problem with them. The boots look heavier than they feel, and appear to be well made. I bought this pair and a different style claiming to keep my feet warm to -25 because I hate having cold feet. Time will tell if the boots do what is promised. I will review them again at the end of the winter. For now, I would like to see U. S. A. right on the boot next to the LL Bean name.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CharlotteA Shearling Bean Boot
Overall, I'm impressed with the quality of this boot. Followed advice and went one size smaller than my true size, which worked out well, but, they are really narrow. Should have ordered the wider width. Haven't decided whether to keep for my daughter, or return. Regardless, will need something wider for myself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Wils14 Great fit!
I live in southern California and will be going to school in the midwest, so I needed to buy winter clothing, boots, etc! After much debate between these boots and a different pair, I decided to go with these as they can keep your feet warmer at lower temps, and coming from someone who has seen snow only a few times, that was crucial!
I normally wear a size 8 in everything (flats, sandals, boots), but ordered a size 7 medium and they fit perfectly!
The laces are a little short, leaving the top hole unlaced, but that's not an issue for me. Also, the shearling lining seems to be very, very warm.
I gave these boots 4 stars instead of 5 only because I haven't actually worn them in winter weather yet so I don't know if they will be warm.
Overall, they definitely put a dent in my wallet but are stylish and so far seems to be a good buy. Thanks, LL Bean! :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by LICer Enormous!
I wear a standard size 10 in every shoe brand. I ordered these first in a size 10, and they were absolutely enormous. Then, I ordered a size 9 and they are still just too large! Even wearing a very thick sock wouldn't make a difference. Very disappointed, but they have to go back.
I am a huge LL Bean fan, but the sizing on these just seems completely off to me. Otherwise, they look like a typically excellent LL Bean product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by syavorsk Most practical purchase I've made
Buying a pair for my sister before they sell out for the winter and felt like I should review while I'm here. I have had my shearling lined Bean Boots for 3 winters now, and I have to say they have been a complete lifesaver. From the frigid winters here in New York, to the 6+ feet of snow in Massachusetts, to skiing in Colorado and Vermont, they have come in handy all winter and I wouldn't buy another brand.
If there is ONE regret I have about these boots, it's that I should've ordered a size smaller. I'm usually between a 6.5-7, and I bought a 7. My feet feel really clunky in them and there's definitely a lot of room in the foot (even with thick wool socks on), so in hindsight I should've gotten a size 6, but these are still great. My sister is a 7.5 and I'm ordering her a size 7 also. So if you're contemplating what size to get, I would say size down for sure!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by mollpre amazing for 2 winters
These boots are amazing. I was so happy to save all my pennies for these boots. I bought them 2 winters ago. For 2 winter seasons my feet were so toasty. I was even able to wear them without socks! However, this year, they have not been warm at all! I am now wearing 2 pairs of socks and toe warmers with these boots!
I think if I just buy new sole inserts, they will be as good as new. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NSBeangirl So good I had to review them twice
I bought these last winter and reviewed them at that time, a positive review. I wanted to write again because we've had a really horrid winter in Nova Scotia this year - snow, freezing rain, rain, then flash freezing. These boots are waterproof and great in the cold and snow and slush and water. I love them. I'm go glad I bought them. Worth the price!
And they look really cool.
I saw a woman the other day who was wearing the same boots. We didn't know each other, but we smiled knowingly because we knew we had the best boots in town.

Rated 5 out of 5 by resourcefuldesign So worth the wait! Best boots ever!
Best boots ever! I wear a size 6-6.5 and have a narrow foot. I bought these in a 6 narrow (received them last may) and they are PERFECT. I have worn them everyday since November. No break in and super comfortable. They're perfect for commuting in the cold but aren't the best for standing outside in 10 degree temperature for long periods of time . As long as you are moving, they're the best. And they look really nice. The dark brown leather is beautiful. I can't say enough good things about these boots. No cold weather boots ever fit me. They are always way too wide. Until now. These are really perfect. Yay! So worth waiting for.

I would never have gotten these for myself because of the price but my son got them for me last Xmas. I needed an 11wide that wasn't in stock and had to be made . Winter was over before they came. At first, when I put them on I didn't like them as they were so heavy and stiff it was an effort to walk. Our Philadelphia Winter has been awful this year with either snow, sleet, rain or slush. I started wearing them and guess I have broken them in as the stiffness and weight doesn't bother me now. They have been a God send for this terrible Winter. They have kept my feet warm, no water gets inside and I'm sure they have prevented me from slipping many times. I have always had cheap boots but they weren't waterproof nor did they keep me warm. These books are quite expensive but you get what you pay for and these boots are well worth it! You won't be disappointed.
