Just because you might need a little help walking doesn't mean you need to look like an old lady. I love this trekking stick even if rambling for me is a hike around the block. It is so lightweight you hardly know you are holding it. It adjusts very easily and the handle helps distributes your weight so your hand doesn't cramp. Because it can easily be reduced in length, it fits in your carry on bag when you travel. This is a great example of a practical, stylish, reasonably priced Bean product.

I am recently handicapped and use a quad cane. I was looking for something to help me get back into nature and the outdoors. I purchased this cane to use in conjunction with my quad cane as balance is a problem for me. So far I have been "trekking" all around my yard with relative ease. I am now eagerly looking forward to my next camping trip.

Lightweight, practical and adjustable. Very easy to use, and can be closed to fit into a medium size suitcase. Never used a cane, but have been using this on a travel tour, and it gives me extra security.

purchased this for my husband to assist his walking on uneven ground. Easy to adjust to the perfect height, and much more "jaunty" than using a cane--The handle provides a great grip, too!

Although I haven't used the Rambler Staff just yet, it arrive when LL Bean said it would, and that was during the mad dash of the holidays. The cork grip feels very comfortable in my hand. I was able to figure out how the guard on the bottom goes on, but it would have been nice to have a picture, or a little paragraph about how to attach it. It does take some strength to pull the guard piece over the plastic clips to lock it in place. Looking forward to using the staff when the weather warms up.

I bought this one of these for myself last year and use it for walking on uneven terrain when my wonky 70+ hips are acting up. The one I'm reviewing now was a gift for an 82-year-old lady who knows that she needs a little help in winter but can't bring herself to use a cane. (She has a long walk to the bus and the sidewalks can be treacherous in cold weather.) She loves the Trekking Staff. It is comfortable to hold, adjusts to her height and provides good traction and balance. Most important to her: it looks like a piece of sporting equipment, not a medical device. Whatever works! :-)

Using the Rambler Trekking Staff makes me feel that I am not using a cane (woman's vanity) and it is most helpful with its slim design and tip for sandy beaches.
The Rambler Trekking Staff was a birthday gift last year from my daughter, to help the arthritic knees, etc. over uneven terrain.
It became more useful lately as the arthritis progressed and was often 'left behind'; so a second Rambler arrived for this year's birthday - one for each car. Senior Moments still ensued SO I PURCHASED A THIRD RAMBLER: one each for the cars and the third for the house: No excuses now!
Love it and highly recommend this useful Trekking Staff.

It is telescoping which I wanted but it is too short for serious walking or hiking for me even at 5' 9". It might be okay going uphill but for downhill stretches forget it. I made a mistake when I purchased this but I will keep it for casual city walking since I have occasional problems with one of my legs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RichOakton A great walking stick/cane
I originally bought this as a cane after I injured my hip.
(I don't know why the product description says "not intended for indoor use" -- probably doesn't meet some bureaucrat's definition of a medical cane.) And the rubber tip has never marred my beige carpet.
It's very light, but very strong and sturdy. I'm a big guy, and I have sometimes put a lot of weight on it, but the length adjustment mechanism has never slipped.
Now that my injury is gone, it's very useful when walking outdoors.
The usual Bean excellent quality. I like it a lot. Highly recommended.

by MerryBow Antarctic tested
This was indispensable on our recent trip to Antarctica. The shore excursions were over rocky and snowy ground--often with a climb through soft snow. The staff provided stability and climbing assistance. My only complaint is that the small guard at the bottom was not secure enough and fell off easily. I lost it on our first shore excursion and hope to replace it. The staff still proved useful.
