I've owned a prior version of this coat for about 8 years. I love, love, love it. I was so ready to love this coat as well. I'm disappointed not to be able to. The coat is a few inches longer than my old one. Not the biggest problem, but when I'm walking in 10 inches of snow, the hem gets all wet - very inconvenient. The zipper sucks. It gets stuck on nothing three times from bottom to top - each and every time I zip it. The real disappointment and the reason I may never purchase anything from LL Bean again, there are no feathers in the arms of this coat and the body is pretty skimpy. It's rated to -50, but I'm freezing in it when it isn't even +32. Unfortunately, this came to light after I had worn it for several weeks during this very mild Northeast winter, or I would return it. A word of advice LL Bean, beef up your quality control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Glissando Best Winter Coat!
I already owned one of these coats and ordered this second one as a backup. By far, this is the best winter coat I have ever had! There are so many features. You have two secure concealed pockets inside. The sleeves have storm cuffs to prevent cold air going up the sleeve. It virtually laughs at the cold wind. The pockets are roomy and also have zipper closures. The hood can be removed but it adds more warmth. No dry cleaning bills because it can be laundered and dried at home and comes out of the dryer looking just as good as the day it arrived at your home from Bean. Its length will keep all of you cozy and warm. And lastly, it looks good. Highly recommended!

Rated 2 out of 5 by lunamiela A surprising miss from LLBean
I am a frequent LLBean customer and love their outerwear. I wanted to replace the long and not stylish down coat I have from a competitor. I tried on the coat as soon as I received it and was very disappointed. First, it is THIN! there is no way I would be able to wear this while crossing the Chicago River on my commute and stay warm. The difference between this coat and the one I wanted to replace is significant. This coat is much lighter and does not have enough down considering what you'd expect from an "ultrawarm" and "long" coat. Second, it looks huge and baggy. Wish LLBean would give it some style and form seeing as they have accomplished that with the ultralight long down coat. Finally, the faux fur on the hood looks cheap. Please LLBean include a more substantial trim and have it look more fashionable! Why is the trim so small? Those who don't like it can remove it so a more substantial and natural looking trim is the way to go! LLBean could knock it out of the park with this coat if it fixed these issues. Seeing the appeal that a certain Canadian company has at much higher prices, I think LLBean has the opportunity to seize this market with a warmer, more fitted and more fashionable coat. Sadly, this coat is going right back and I am still stuck with my old frumpy maxi coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by pleasantvillelady Very happy with this coat
I live in Wisconsin and had a chance to test the warmth of this coat this week with the below zero wind chill. It passed the test. I put up the hood and even though the wind was strong, I did not feel the cold through the coat or hood. The hood has a nice wide Velcro strip that holds the hood up in the wind. I worked perfectly. I ordered a medium and even though my waist measurement was 1? more than the chart, it fit fine with plenty of room. I usually wear a sweatshirt under my coat. The only thing was the sleeves were a little long and I probably should have ordered a petite size although I usually do not wear petite. But it is okay even with the longer sleeves. Another reviewer mentioned the long length and how it can get dirty easy on the bottom. This is true but I just lift it up when I walk through anything slushy. Also it is washable so easy to clean if needed. I like the fact that the fur zips off for cleaning too. Some say it makes you look big, but it is not as bulky as a lot of down coats so I like the look of it too. I am very happy with the coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gina7 great coat
I was looking for a longer coat to keep my legs warm during the windy walk into and out of work. Love the color-brown, the overall length is perfect and superbly warm. And, of course, the shipping was fast.
I am returning it though as the sleeves are too short for my long arms. It's not the coat as I find that with all long sleeves from Bean. I was just hoping that the coat would be a bit longer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Deborah253 I really am warm!!!
Needed a new winter coat. Wanted one that went past my knees (I'm 5'7). Knew LL Bean was good quality and I'd be able to find what I wanted. After reading reviews on this coat, I ordered it in brown. Let me also add that I hate winter, I can't keep warm and I live in NY. When I opened the box upon arrival, I was a bit concerned because the coat seemed rather thin to be able to keep me warm in cold temps. It wasn't big and puffy like I anticipated it to be. I'm a size 14 and I ordered a Large and the fit is perfect.
We've had record cold temps the past couple days. 0 degrees with wind chills 10 - 20 below zero. I wore my coat with only a t-shirt and jeans underneath. I was completely warm, not even chilly. Put the hood up and you're even better. The only part of me that was cold were my hands because I forgot to put on gloves. This is the best winter coat I have worn. I would highly recommend it to everyone.
My only complaint is the zipper. The material around the zipper tends to get in the way or gets stuck in the zipper and gives me trouble zipping up or down. You just have to play around with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JKAF NOT WARM!
I tried this coat on at the store; fitted well, nice WHITE color. When I ordered online, it was not white, it was cream color, did not fit as well and WAS NOT WARM AT ALL! I spend a lot of time outside and after about 5 minutes in 25 degree weather, I was very cold. This coat is rated for below zero and the same "warm rating' as my other LL Bean parka. No comparison! I am very disappointed in this coat. Maybe for the city where you go in and out and do not spend much time outside, it would be okay. I am also disappointed that the new version of my parka seems cheaply made and would not trust it would keep me as warm as my old one. LL bean seems to be going down on quality all around.

Rated 4 out of 5 by WF01 Super Warm Full Length Coat
I only gave 4 stars because the zipper needs to be a better quality zipper. It hangs up, the bottom part unzips itself and is difficult to get re-zipped. Several times I ended up just having to step out of the coat & then try and get the zipper working. I would love to see an inside pocket and instead of those itty bitty almost worthless side slash pockets some real honest to goodness pockets that hold more than a set of keys.
I live in the Midwest and we get some frigid weather here - snow, ice storms & high wind. I can take the dogs outside in the worst winter weather in this coat and stay warm. I have a cat sanctuary on our property and make a trek over a minimum of twice a day. This is warmest coat ! This is actually my second one. I use one as a working coat and one as a going out coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anodyne Love this coat
The New York City winters can be a bit unpredictable; a couple of winters ago we had the polar vortex and it barely cracked 20 degrees for a couple of months running, so I decided I needed a really warm coat. After a bunch of research, I decided this one fit the bill. I haven't been disappointed. This coat is super warm, especially with the hood up. It zips and buttons for extra protection, too, if you need it. It's also very long, which for me is a plus; I'm about 5'6" and it reaches about the the very top of my ankle. Shorter women might want to get the three-quarter length coat instead; I actually have to hike this one up slightly when I go up a staircase so I don't trip.
I got the green shade, which I think is called spruce, and it's beautiful -- sort of a slightly bluish green. People have actually stopped me on the street to tell me it's nice. The coat itself is a pretty typical down coat, which is to say it looks a bit like you're wearing a sleeping bag, but hey, as long as I'm warm I don't really care.
My one complaint is that the pockets are quite shallow, so they're not great for holding an iPhone, but that's a minor complaint.
I ordered this coat in December 2014 and it arrived in July 2015, which is actually pretty funny if you think about it. But it was kind of exciting because by the time it arrived I had totally forgotten I ordered it so it was like getting a gift. Anyway, totally worth the wait!

Rated 4 out of 5 by AnnieFromOhio Long & roomy
Beautiful coat- after trying to buy one at a lower price from a competitor (3 exchanges), I gave up a sprung for this. I waffled between S & M, petite & regular. I am 5'4", size 10. I went for the Med Petite. It's very long, sleeves are fine and roomy enough for a heavy sweater. If I wanted a trimmer fit, a small would be fine. I think the regular would be too long. Gorgeous coat.
