Rated 5 out of 5 by JJCambridge Best jacket I own!
I live in Boston and spend every weekend in the lakes district of NH. This is, hands-down, the best and warmest jacket I have! I love the length because it covers my hips and butt. I initially purchased this jacket to walk my dogs in, but quickly realized that it's a great commuter jacket to/from work and to wear around the city. I take it everywhere with me. It is definitely big/bulky but I don't care b/c it keeps me warm! Buy this jacket!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by gRob Worst pockets EVER
I bought this coat based on reviews and in many ways it has not disappointed. It is very warm and light weight. The fit is perfect and it was a good value.... until you factor in that the pocket on the left side was sewn in upside down. It goes up rather than down like the pocket on the right side. Annoying, but it was too cold to go without a coat and a pain to exchange it. Fast forward to yesterday, I forgot & put my iPhone in that pocket. Stupid mistake, within steps it fell out, hit the pavement hard and is now not working properly. If you purchase this coat, factor in a cold hand and a broken iPhone. :(

Rated 4 out of 5 by CONNmom nice jacket, perfect length
I was looking for a three-quarter length jacket and this one is very nice. I'm 5'6" and it hits right at my knees. It feels very lightweight but is warm. I wish there had been more color choices available (although I ordered late in season so much was sold out). My only complaint is the zipper, which has the ability to zip open from the bottom, is very difficult to zip. For some reason it's hard to line up the two zipper pieces easily. It always takes me a few tries to get it aligned. Not sure if it's a design flaw or just a defect on my particular coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by grandmabo Love the coat, except!!
I absolutely love this coat. It is warm and a great fit. I would maybe suggest that the zipper that attaches the hood to the coat be longer on each side and eliminate the small button on each side. I carry a shoulder handbag and after 4 wearings I lost the button as the strap on the bag hits the button just right. So I had to unbutton those two buttons and now the hood hangs funny. Thank you for allowing me to express my opinion. Had I known I would have had this problem I would not have purchased the coat. I will be on the look-out for other coats like that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RojoFromMaine Wife loves it!
Bought this jacket for my wife for Christmas. She loves it, and can't think of anything bad about the coat. Well made, great quality as we expect from LL Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SGTraveller Best Coat Ever!!!
I live in Singapore - hot, humid and... hot. I was concerned about the cold for my winter hols in Europe, and wanted something that would keep me warm without too much layering and this coat was it. I'm busty, 5'4 and after getting the LLBean Customer Service recommendation, I got the Large. Great fit!
It's travelled with me through Munich and much of Bavaria, Salzburg, Venice and Barcelona through most of December 2014and January 2015. I was able to get by with just a warm thermal long-sleeve t-shirt (or just a thin lambswool sweater T), a large thick wool infinity scarf that I draped across my chest, leggings or jeans, boots, socks, leather gloves and knitted hat. And this coat. And I was fine!!! There were a couple of days when I had to throw on a thick sweater, and this coat had plenty of room still.
At one point in Salzburg, we got caught in the rain. Now this coat is NOT waterproof and only somewhat water resistant. I just shook out the excess water and drapped it near the heater and voila! by the morning, it was warm and DRY! By the way, I did not get any feathers poking through.
I love the 2 internal pockets and 2 external pockets - they allowed me to go bag-free (hate carrying a bag and being wary about pickpockets etc), just keeping a small wallet in one, iPhone in another and tissues in the third. Perfect!
It packs easily, squishing down to a small pack in a space-saver bag. A great investment and will last me a long time and on many more trips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by classical88 wonderfully warm
I've just returned from a few weeks in the North East, where the daytime and early evening temps dipped into the low '20s (lower with windchill), and although I reviewed this coat for fit, construction, and appearance earlier in the season, I wanted to add comments about warmth.
As someone who does NOT do well in the cold, I'm so impressed by the fact that while wearing this coat (and a light or medium-weight sweater), I was completely comfortable in what, to me, was severe weather. My sister, who had purchased the same coat in the longer length, had the same reaction. What a great coat!
And whereas, in my earlier review, I did complain a bit about how closely the velcro fastens around the neck, I would now say it was essential to keeping out the cold and wind.
The only negative comments I could make would be about the fur trim on the hood, which looks awfully tacky, and the fact that the small buttons tethering the hood to the coat pop off too easily. [I've now lost one, but caught the other just in time as it feel off.]
All in all, though, I'm very happy to have made the purchase.

Rated 3 out of 5 by TTLe Too big, unflattering. Make petite XXS please!
I had high hopes for this coat since it has an adequate amount of insulation, and I like the fact that the fur trim can be removed. Unfortunately, it's too big for me. I'm 4'11", 95 lbs, and a petite XS was huge! Plus, the coat is unflattering since there's too much room at the waist, making me look like a big balloon (if the coat did fit). I hope LLBean offers petite XXS or petite P soon, and perhaps add some curves at the waist. Otherwise, the coat is warm. I like the design at the collar. If the coat did fit, I probably won't need a scarf.

Rated 5 out of 5 by RNFromNY Warm, Waterproof coat
I first purchased this coat 5 years ago. Wanted another one in black but has been sold out since December in my size. Stopped by the LL Bean store in Yonkers, NY and a great staff checked on line just to see. Alas! Got very lucky and there was one available in my size. Nothing was wrong with the first one but I just wanted another one in a different color. The coat keeps me warm and dry during these cold northeast winters. The only thing I would complain though is that the hood is a little bit small. But then again, I prefer to use my LL bean bomber hat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by fullhouse Great fit, very warm, pretty colors, windproof
As I write this review the coat is "sold out", I hope this coat becomes a standard Bean item because it's that good. I received my coat early in December and waited for colder weather to write my review. Well, we've had 10below zero with a wind weather and I have to say this coat is WARM. Stopped the wind and kept me warm. Exactly what I wanted.
The length is nice, to the mid thigh which keeps the behind warm while outside and sitting on cold seats/in the car. The front pockets are softly lined which is a nice touch. There's extra material at the ends of the sleeves that keeps the wrists warm and cold air from sneaking up the sleeves. Critical when it's very cold and there's a wind.
The neck is high enough to keep the back of the neck warm, and the hood has an excellent wide velcro closure at the neck. I've worn the hood with the fur section folded back and it does stay fairly well. When it was particularly cold with a strong wind I kept the fur forward and the generous sized hood kept my head and sides of my face warm and wind protected. Very nice!
As other reviewers have noted the zipper can stick sometimes at the bottom. I haven't been too annoyed by this because most of the time I just snap the coat shut using the snaps - something that on most coats that have both zippers and snaps isn't feasible because the snaps aren't that strong. Well on this coat the snaps are generous and well placed and usually all that's needed. But if you prefer using a zipper, do note that the bottom can take some adjusting to unzip.
I was ready to order the coat in black, but at the suggestion of one of my teen daughters I ordered the teal/green color. So glad I did! It's a muted color, not "bright" or obnoxious. Looks great especially with black boots and mittens/hat.
I generally wear a medium in coats, ordered a medium and the size was spot on perfect. Comfortable in the arms and shoulders even when driving.
When I ordered the coat in November 2014 it was backordered to early December. Worth the wait. I highly recommend this coat and hope that Bean offers it again next Fall/Winter so that others can purchased this coat.
