I put a great deal of time into researching the top brands of coats before deciding on this one, ranging between $150-250. For me, this coat is ideal because it has the fur hood, and the square (NF metropolis type) pillows of down, the waterproof protection, and has a good guarantee. I got the black, the fur is darker in person, not as stark contrast as it looks online, which was a relief to me. For reference, I am 5'3" and wear a medium top, but normally a 12/14 bottom. I got the size medium, and it fits comfortably with room to sit down and layer without a problem, but also without looking terribly bulky in my upper body or arms. I ordered the regular size, not petite, because I wanted it to be long, it goes a little passed my knees which is great. The hood was too long and blocked my vision, but there's a velcro thing on the back of the hood that pulls back the hood a bit, so now it's a total win. I had considered ordering a large originally based on other reviews, especially given that generally with coats I may need extra room, but this medium is very ample.

Bought this coat last year and someone took it at a function and left theirs by mistake. I was devastated, so I bought the same one again this year! Love it so much! I normally wear a size 6. Bought this in Pettit S and there is still plenty of room for a sweater underneath. It is extremely warm and the hood is perfect when it is snowing! Obviously I recommend this coat if I bought the same one two years in a row!! I love the white and it is easy to wash and dry at home!

I have never been so impressed by a coat. Even on the really damp winter days I am always really warm. At first I had an issue with the hood as it seemed to big but I discovered that if you use the velcro at the top to secure it then it fits perfectly. I also love that there is a zipper at the bottom as well so that you can unzip the bottom partially when you sit down if you want to.

This is an amazing coat, so glad I ordered it! I searched the internet for quite a while looking for the perfect winter coat but kept coming back to LL Bean for this one because I love how reliable their products are and am never disappointed and this coat is no exception! Received it last week and the weather just turned, so it is finally cold enough to wear it and I am very pleased so far. Overall, I love the fit and style of the coat. It is simple in styling (no extra embellishments, etc.) but has just enough attention to detail and fit that it is still stylish for someone my age. It is incredibly comfortable, not too puffy so I don't feel suffocated wearing it and the material is great as well, soft and great quality. It fits slim enough to be stylish but is still roomy at the same time. The attention to detail makes it superb. Fleece lined pockets are great for warmth and I love that the pockets zip as well to keep keys, money, phone secure. The fleece lining inside the wrists is awesome as well, providing extra comfort and warmth. The coat zips all the way down and the snaps that close over the zip are great for keeping the coat closed for the extra bit of warmth. Zippers have fabric pulls which makes zipping easy. The fur liner for the hood is on trend and its nice that it can be removed to be cleaned or to change up the look of the coat. It is VERY warm and cozy; haven't had a chance to test it in snow yet but I have a feeling I will not be disappointed. There are only a few minor details I would point out for potential buyers- the coat does run a bit on the bigger side as other reviewers have said. This is okay for me because it leaves enough room to add lots of layers underneath which I love and need for winter in New England; if you want room for layers, order your normal size, if you'd like it more fitted I would order a size down. Also, this is the 3/4 length coat and it falls just below my knees, so its a bit long but I attribute this to my height and am also okay with this- longer means more warmth! For reference, I am 5'4" and approx. 165 lbs with a large chest and ordered a size large in regular. Also, the hood is quite large as others have said but when the velcro is fastened, it stands up better so this is not a big problem but do be wary of this. I do wish the coat came in some sort of navy blue color but I ordered the black and am pleased with it. Having shopped around quite a bit, this is the best price I have found for such a great coat and I know that I can always rely on LL Bean for any future repairs, etc. I may need so I find it to be the best choice compared to similar jackets from competitors. This is a fantastic coat and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a coat that is both stylish and functional! Great job, LL Bean!

This coat is very warm and doesn't have the heavy obtrusive weight that usually comes with a very warm coat. I can comfortably be in the field with my horses in the teens of temperature. I stay warm and have the flexibility to move around easily without be weighed down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BetaSue Toasty in Alaska
I'm from Houston, Tx. Not a cold weather place! Just returned from Fairbanks, Alaska where temps were -12 to -17 in the daytime and -22 at night. I layered up with this coat and was toasty warm the entire time I was there! Believe it when they say it's rated to -40F! The knit cuffs kept drafts out and helped keep gloves in place! I love the longer length. I'm thrilled with this coat and expect to wear it more when I see my mother in Amarillo, Tx next month! Thanks, L.L. Bean!

I am disappointed with this coat. In 1995 I purchased a down jacket and it is still warmer than this new coat. It runs big so that I can wear a sweater under the coat, but it is not the quality of my old coat. I wish we could bring quality, more down for a warmer coat back to today. It seams anything you buy these days is cheap, fast made with no quality control. I gave my old jacket to a homeless person because he was cold. The jacket looked old and I hoped to get the same new. The new was three times more in price.
It runs big so I can wear a sweater under the coat. No I am not buying a new one again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Evers My sizing exeperience: runs large
I read all the reviews on the coat's running small. Usually I'm a medium, but in coats sometimes I get a large because I have long arms and broad shoulders. (I'm 5'7" and 139 lbs.) Ended up calling to get exact measurements on the coat. Finally I ordered a small!
The small fits, though it is a little snug in the shoulders and I would like the liner inside the wrist (a great feature) to be a little longer. It fits over sweaters. Probably too small if I needed to wear a jacket under it. I'm keeping the small because it looks great, not too bulky. The sleeve -- the outer layer-- is long enough.
I haven't worn the coat yet, since I live in California. Will use it for trips to cold weather. But it feels really warm, and the way the hood and collar fit you can really feel snug if you're in a blizzard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HappyWanderer attractive and fits well
I ordered the green in an XS petite and the sizing was perfect. I had been concerned that some reviews said the coat sizing ran large, but not the case for me, 5'3" The coat has some very nice features: several zip pockets and an inside pocket for phone or glasses, which will allow me to go out in winter and not bother with a purse. Also the hood can be adjusted with a velcro tab on the back. The faux fur trim on the hood is an attractive touch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by lovenature Just what I was looking for!
I needed a warm coat that was a bit dressier than my normal hiking gear. This coat is just right for me. It is warm and has enough room in the shoulders and arms for sweaters underneath. I normally wear a L in Bean shirts and pants but always go up to an XL for coats. This was no exception. The XL fit with the extra room I wanted for layers without looking bulky. I would recommend the coat.
