Prior to purchasing this cookset, I had used a titanium 1 liter pot for my backcountry meals. That pot was a good one, lasting about 12 years. When I lost the lid for it on a backpacking trip, I tried to secure a new one (but the companies customer service was asleep at the helm- failing to return multiple emails). Therefore I retired the old pot to the emergency car kit and began researching new backcountry cooksets. I knew the new pot I needed would have to be either titanium or stainless steel because of the properties of the metals (durability, transferring heat evenly, etc). So why did I chose this set and what do I think of it so far? As far as the weight is concerned, yes it does weigh a few more ounces than the titanium. Nevertheless, for me the ounces are not only negligible, but a positive -as it reflects the solidness of product. Also knowing not all stainless steel is the same, when I learned this is made of some of the best 18/10, and offered by LL Bean -my decision was made. I like the versatility of it having two pots (depending on the trip depends on which or if both travel with me). Lastly was the cost. LL Bean's price (along with no shipping costs) is as good as any other companies out there. And I have learned the hard way that 'other companies' don't have 'the customer is right satisfaction guarantee' that LL Bean always has. Regarding the cookset, I have used it a handful of times and so far so good. The years will tell if it is as bomber proof as it seems to be. The only two improvements I could suggest are: 1) Made in the USA (while MSR the company is an American company the pots are made in Taiwan) and 2) The pots had two small holes near the top for securing a metal loop to use for hanging over a fire (though I plan to create these myself). Overall the product is simple in design, durable, and well worth the money. Thank you LL Bean for stocking it and being the awesome company that you are!

Pans worked out, very well. Burned some eggs to the bottom of them, but it was no fault of the pan. Jetboil stoves tend to burn way too hot for any delicate cooking. Be sure to bring some type of cooking oil before you toss a few eggs in there, or hash. Great pans though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LLBeanShopperInMissouri Cookwear For Backpacking
We saw this while on a visit to Maine last summer. I moved to Missouri a few years back and we looked at local outdoor stores. Couldn't find what we wanted. We found these and ordered several for our boy scout troop who are just starting out on backpacking adventures. We've been backpacking for years. So when we got a gift card for christmas, I bought one for us as well. We love it. Stack inside of each other, lightweight, and easy to clean while fitting in our packs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by woodchuckwillie look no further for backpacking cook set
I have had a few different cook sets because one thing I enjoy for sure about backpacking is trying different gear. This was my first set and then I sold it to "upgrade." However, I'm back to this now and don't ever see myself changing. It's incredibly durable, easy to clean and perfect in terms of size/weight/volume/functionality (I'm usual cooking for two adults and a kid or two). Pair this with an MSR whisperlite stove and you will never want for a backpacking cook set or stove again. Oh yes, don't forget the teflon coated frying pan with the fold-in handle which is a must for pancakes and fish.

I like the gripper. It holds the lid and two pots very firmly. In the interest of light weight, you have to be careful not to burn contents. I use them at home and plan to take them camping.

I have had this set before and I like it. I don't like the sets with the coatings because they can get scratched. This set might be a little big for backpacking, but I go Kayak camping in the mountain lakes, and in Puget Sound, so it works great for me, idea for 2 people.
