I was very surprised when these shorts started to fall apart after a couple of washings, The Material started to get small holes. At first I thought I had caught them on something but then noticed several more. I had them patched and started to use them for working around the yard. After a couple of more washings the Velcro started to pull off the pockets. Not the usual quality I have come to expect from LL Bean. Time for the rag bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kathy3 Best cargo shorts ever
These cargo shorts have velcro closures which are so much better than the tight buttons on some other brands that are almost impossible to open and close. They come out of the dryer better looking than any other cargo shorts we have bought.

Well, these certainly are a favorite of my husbands. He LIVES in these during the summer, fall, and spring, and swears by them for comfort in our Southeast Texas Gulf Coast heat and humidity. At 5' 8", he prefers the 7" inseam. He has worn them for years, and his last pair was purchased within the year. Thank you, L. L. Bean for these classic (and durable) casual shorts.

I do not like the Velcro closings on rear and cargo pockets. Too difficult to open, especially if you are in a hurry, such as reaching for credit card or handkerchief.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Nator Cargo pockets won't hold a smartphone anymore
I have a number of pathfinder shorts and have always found them to be durable and fit well. When the latest order arrived, I found that they have changed the size of the cargo pockets so that my phone won't fit in them anymore. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4. I checked my old shorts and it fit in all of them, just not the new ones.
When the weather gets nice, I live in shorts and t-shirts and not having a good place to hold my phone in these shorts limits their utility. Won't be buying any more of this style.

Will order more - comfortable, casual and elastic waist works well as I am between sizes. I would prefer the cargo pockets to be a little deeper but I like the trim look they present. Note, 'basil' looks gray w/green undertone on line... but in reality the shorts are green - a brighter drab olive color.

these shorts have been my favorite in the past. They used to have 7 belt loops. Now they have 5 and don't fit as comfortably

Rated 4 out of 5 by denbury wear them all summer but color bleached out
I have owned a pair of 7" inseam Pathfinder shorts since 2010. They have performed very well in all but one way. Because I sweat a lot when working in the garden, I have found that the carbon navy color mine came in has bleached. The front of mine are now almost purple. And, when checking whether they are still sold, I was surprised to see that in almost exactly 4 years the price has increased 60% from the $24.50 I paid.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Hermitsunite I expected to love these. I didn't.
First, I'll share that the Pathfinder Pants are probably my favorite pants to wear. They are so comfortable and I love the fact that the pockets have Velcro closures instead of buttons. So I expected to love these shorts. They felt true-to-size (I ordered a 33--the same size I wear in Pathfinder pants) and comfortable. However, these shorts flare out significantly in the legs. It was as if the waist fit but the wide legs were meant for someone much much bigger than I. The wide legs reminded me of photos of my Mom in huge, poofy camp shorts back in the late 1940s. Definitely not a flattering style on me, so I'll be returning them.
