I just purchased this garment bag and took for a short trip to Sarasota. It replaced a well-worn garment bag. Since it's new, it looks good, but it is 1/3 smaller than the original. If LLBean had offered a larger garment bag, I would've purchased it. Two sports coats and several shirts strained the new bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 The best bag I have ever owned.
This garment bag has been to China six times, Vietnam two times, Australia two times, Europe four times and countless trips throughout the United States, Canada and it is still going strong. After all of those trips it is finally starting to show somewhere but mechanically it is still working great. This year coming up I will be visiting 12 different countries so I have decided to order another one for standby because nothing can last forever. I strongly recommend this garment bag to anybody who travels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jim2001 As durable and useful as expected
The garment bag lives up to my (generally high) expectations. Solid, made in a durable, well thought manner. This fits the bill.

I have been using LL Bean luggage for years. They stand behind their product 100%. I was vacationing in Maine one time and had a problem with the handle on another piece of luggage. I popped into the Freeport store and with no questions asked the piece was replaced with a brand new piece of luggage. When I needed a Garment Bag for an upcoming cruise I didn't hesitate to go right to LL Bean to find just the perfect one!

The Sportsman luggage selection IS NOT waterproof. My luggage got caught in the rain while on the tarpac waiting to be loaded on a plane. When I arrived at my destination and opened my Sportsman garment bag, I found everything inside soaken wet. I am very disappointed after making the investment of owning four pieces of the Sportsman luggage series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by hogvet1983 So far so good, but...
The length of the handle isn't sufficient to keep from hitting my heals on it when i walk.

Bag arrived with structural damage to the exterior framing. Carton did not appear stressed. Since I had the bag monogrammed, it must have been damaged between that action and its arrival. Manufacturer may have quality control problems.

I own a whole fleet of LL Bean luggage, and most of their stuff is great (like most Bean stuff). This product, however, is not.
The suitcase itself is quite durable...I have used it for, what, six years now. The zippers are solid, though the 'master' zipper that closes around the border of the bag is a little hard to zip up sometimes. But I suppose that is a tradeoff to be made for durability.
There are plenty of pockets, both inside and out, to keep shoes and shirts and gadgets segregated and organized. The wheels are very durable. The size is just small enough that you can fit it into the overhead storage bins of the larger planes. In several years of travel, I've only been denied this as carry-on once.
However, there are two problems with this product that are so maddening that they negate all the positives. Both are related to the retractable handle.
First of all, it's just too short! It's juuuuust short enough so that when I'm walking along (I'm 5'11"), I have tilt slightly to the side so that I can reach down far enough to pull it along. And as I'm pulling it along quite close to my body, it keeps smacking into my shoe heels. VERY ANNOYING.
Second of all, the handle itself is a disaster of bad design. Sometime it retracts easily, sometimes it doesn't. And on a trip yesterday, when I retracted it (or attempted to) it snapped apart.
I've owned this thing for a few years, like I said, and I've tried to overlook its problems. But I'll never get a garment bag from Bean again until they fix this stinking handle!!
