I spent the last 20 minutes lighting and relighting two pieces of your fatwood. It pains me to write a poor review on this product. But the truth is it will not light up without alot of work, and fatwood is not suppose to be that way. It arrived without a problem. It was the 35lb box like I ordered. But that is all the good I can say about this product.

Wow! This stuff is awesome! If you do it right you can ignite damp split hard wood with 4 little pieces. I was a skeptic at first, but have no problem paying for this kindling.

I used fatwood many years ago and I had forgotten about it until recently. I searched the internet and checked out many different websites. I ended up on L.L. Bean. I read the reviews and compared prices and decided to order the 25 pound box.
Since I have received the fatwood I've started a few fires with it in my fireplace and it works great! I've had to use only one stick to start my fires. No paper or anything else but the fatwood. I'm sold with the quality and especially the price compared to other sellers. I couldn't find a better price anywhere. That place for prime members gets $20.00 for a 10 pound box. I'd much rather pay $35.00 for a 25 pound box! I highly recommend the Fatwood from L.L. Bean!

In the past, I've collected my own fatwood (pitchwood), which can be quite a chore. in 2013, this product was recommended by a friend. I was thrilled with the convenience and quality.
In 2014, we reordered a bigger box for our two stoves. As has been noted in other reviews, the 2014 quality was far below par. The pieces were thicker, and lacked in sufficient resins.
I'm ordering again this year after reading L.L.Bean's response that they were working with their vendor to assure future quality. I hope that the box this year matches the quality in 2013, and look forward to its arrival.

Have been using this product for the past 5 years and had ZERO issues. Starts fires quickly - burns hot and for a decent amount of time.
Use about 7 pieces for each fire. Spread the fatwood in even spaces across the inside width of the stove. Add a little small kindling and newspaper to help create a nice bed of flame and within 5 minutes, have a nice roaring fire. Highly recommend this product - very easy to use.

My sister was raving about this product so we decided to try it; so glad we did!! Really helps to start up the fire in our woodburner which we use to heat 3/4 of our home.

This product is superior to any other one on the market. You only have to use a couple of pieces to get a roaring fire going. I have even used this product while camping to burn unseasoned wood and it kept that fire burning nicely and was able to get it started easily :) . I have had one bad batch but when I called the company they had another boxed shipped right to be for free!!! Great product and AWESOME customer service!!!!! A+++++

I am not sure what all the fuss is about. I have been using llbean fatwood for years and this year I ordered my 2 boxes early. They were fine and are working great as usual. I usually buy the 25 lb boxes.
Since it got cold earlier than usual this year, I am ordering another box to finish the year and start next year. Think I'll try the 35 lb box this time. I burn a lot of hedge in the wood stove and it takes 3-4 pieces of fatwood to get it started, so 2 boxes usually lasts a couple of months. I wouldn't go without my llbean fatwood!

Dear LL Bean,
I've been buying these fire starters for years. Last year, I was disappointed in them because they seemed difficult to light. I thought it was just a bad year or that I received a bad batch. This year's batch is even worse and I've already burned up a brand new fireplace lighter trying to get these to burn. I'm not sure what is going on but in the past, I received pieces of pine pitch that would light very quickly. This year, the wood has very little odor and I even wonder if it's pine at all. Please contact your source and let them know that they are not providing quality starters. It seems to me that I get about 10 good sticks per large box. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark!
My suggestion to everyone else is to wrap your fire starters in a wad of paper and light. If you have old candle wax lying around, add a small piece of that to your paper-stick bundle. Merry Christmas everyone!
