These literally cannot be the same shoes that have gotten so many rave reviews. I used to work in the manufacturing industry in China and it is almost certain that there are two or more different factories contracted to make this shoe. The previous reviewer was dead-on; the shoe actually feels like it is made of cardboard, and the leather is paper thin (not full-grain by any stretch, and not the expensive-feeling thin of designer shoes). Every part of the shoe feels unbelievably cheap. So be prepared to send them back if you get the pasted-together version. Thank you, L.L.Bean, for the great return policy.

These seem to be really well made. The leather is thicker than it used to be when I last had a pair of Rockports, so they aren't quite "tennis shoe" comfortable but more durable. They aren't too shiny so I can wear more casual clothes with them if I feel like it.

I read a lot of the reviews before deciding that the authors of most negative reviews didn't know what they were talking about and ordered a pair and I'm glad I did. These shoes look terrific, and were extremely comfortable right out of the box. Now, personally, I would never put on a new pair of leather shoes without "breaking" them first -- that is, working the shoe in my hands for a few minutes to loosen things up a bit. After doing so, I wore them for about half an hour to test the fit and feel before taking them off. The fit was great, and my toes are wider than most. Next day, I wore the shoes to work, and took a spare pair in case of discomfort. After 9 hours at the office, they started to rub a little at the heal and little toe. But I didn't need the spare shoes, and the next day I was able to wear them all day without discomfort. Sharp looking, too. I'll be ordering another pair very soon.

i have never order shoes from a website because I was skeptical of how they would fit since different shoes are made differently. Also, I didn't want to deal with the hassle of shipping them back if they didn't fit. After reading the reviews for this shoe, I took a chance and placed the order. The shoes arrived rather quickly and they fit perfectly! I was pleasantly surprised! I was so satisfied that I placed an order for another pair in a different color. Thanks L.L. Bean!

These shoes were bought for special occasions but feel so good that I am wearing them casually also. If they start to look rough I will order another pair for those special occasions when shoes should look nice.

This shoe required no break - in period, very comfortable shoe to walk in right out of the box. A new experience for me!
