My husband is very active and needed something beyond a swimsuit. We have a cabin, and ihe is in and out of the water all day long with fixing, working or in the boat, but he also needs to be able to go to town for supplies on a moments notice. He loves these shorts quick drying Velcro pockets and look good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MagnumPI Best bathing suit
These shorts fit great, they are easy to move around in while in the water, and they dry fast. By far the best bathing suit I've ever had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TampaBayKayaker Great Cargo Shorts
I love these cargo shorts. They are perfect for kayaking, walking, and just living in (in Florida). They are very comfortable in both the material and the fit - especially the waist - just enough elastic. Contrary to some other reviews, my cargo shorts (tan size L) fit well and are sturdy, long lasting, and color-fast.

Truly love these! As a female who despises bathing suits, both one & two piece, I prefer board shorts, but don't like the velcro fronts at the waist. These shorts have a string-tie for the waist. I'm not a large girl (5'5"/130 lbs), so I bought size medium, and the fit is perfect. They dry quickly after swimming, so you can go someplace after without worrying about changing. I love these shorts!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Zadok Decent but not for men's hiking
Supplex shorts, with cargo pockets, and a mesh liner are getting harder to find, so was happy to find these. I replaced an old pair of Royal Robbins shorts that I has totally worn out.
Thankfully, I did a test hike before I took these alone for my major backpacking trip. While the shorts themselves are great, I found the mesh liner too abrasive for the rigors of hiking. I simply did not have a comfortable experience and was conscious of a level of discomfort. See for yourself: Go into the store and grab a pair of running shorts and compare the silky liner of the running shorts with these cargo shorts. I don't see a lot of difference between hiking and running.
These short are probably great for paddling, but because of the kind of mesh liner they are using, not great for hiking or backpacking -- unless you choose to wear underwear, which defeats the purpose of wearing water shorts.
This is a big problem now. More than ever, many clothing and footwear products marketed for the outdoors or adventure community are not made by those who use such gear. 20 years ago, this was not so much an issue.

Bought these for my husband for paddle boarding and they are really nice. I got them on the Daily Markdown, so doubly worth it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by OBX4 Terribly sized
Like other reviews stated, there is clearly something wrong with this design. My husband is 5'9" 185 lbs and he could have fit 3 of his legs in one slot. I don't understand why they would make such a poor design. The pictures are staged to show the legs looking slim or even gathering at the leg bottom but the must be pinned as the shorts could never look like that.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Harvey100 Exactly what I've been looking for, but defective
I need closeable pockets in a swim suit,..many great uses, but the velcro closure fails to hold when swimming. Everthing falls out, especially lighter things like drawstring bags..

I have worn an XL for as long as I can remember.... 20-something years at least. When I tried on these shorts, the waist was fine BUT the Legs were designed for someone with Elephantiasis. Like 3XL for the legs. Looked like circus shorts for a clown. I returned these to Maine in a New York second. How terribly disappointing!!! What happened to quality control? They are well made and the blue color is vibrant and nice.
