I have owned several pairs of Bean Boots over the years. This pair was the correct size, but the thinsulate liner was sewn into the boots so that it pressed hard into the top of my feet when I pulled the boots on. I returned them immediately as they were too uncomfortable to wear even for a few minutes standing indoors.
I don't know if just this pair was defective, but both the left and right boot had exactly the same problem.

I had a similar pair of rubber bottom pacs from Bean's major outdoor competitor that lasted for years. I replaced them with these boots and am very happy. I use these for normal winter wear, blowing snow, walking the dog, etc. They don't have a real traction sole, such as you would want for hunting or climbing, but those days are past me. The fit is excellent. They are warm. There is enough room for a chemical toe warmer for late season games at Lambeau. I would say they would be great for ice fishing and for cold weather hunting where one does more sitting than hiking, especially in steep terrain, Packer games, snow blowing, & regular outdoor "walk-a-bouts". I would give them a 100% positive recommendation.

The fit information given says, if you will heavy sock order your normal shoe size. I did and when I tried them on with no socks they were hard to get into.

So pleased with this recent purchase! Living in Montreal, Canada, where sidewalks are covered in a cocktail of wintery muck for a good four months of the year, I have had my share of disappointing boots?. Until now, that is.
Wore these boots all morning through slushy, gravel-covered sidewalks, and my feet were kept dry and warm while wearing a mid-weight sock in temperatures of -12░C (10░F). Love the high leather upper for tucking in pant legs to avoid salt and slush stains. Rubber soles are flexible and comfortable. They lace up snugly and offer proper stability for ankles and feet. Comes with a removable insole, so I can wear them with my orthotic inserts. As recommended in the online fit information, I ordered a size down; with the insole removed and my orthotics inserted, the fit was just right. Although the tongue of the leather upper does have a fold, it was not uncomfortable, as some reviewers have reported, and I suspect the fold will soften in time. Just a heads up - getting the boots on and off is a tad labour intensive; I found it was more comfortable to be sitting down while pulling them off or on.
Sweet bonus for Canadian shoppers: not only are there no shipping fees, but there is no duty because the boots are made in Maine. No surprise charges.

You really can't go too far wrong with the purchase of these boots. They are comfortable, warm, and light weight. I've owned a pair of them now for many years. After one pair wears out, I either have new bottoms sewn on or get a new pair. Since I started wearing an orthotic arch support, my fit requirements changed, but Bean customer service helped me with the changes. The boots run a bit large, and there are no half sizes. So if you are going to wear them with just a heavy sock, you can just order your usual shoe size, or even a half size smaller if you wear a half size ordinarily. But if you wear an orthotic, and you want the Goretex/Thinsulate lined version for warmth, it is best to order a half size larger than you usually wear, or maybe a full size larger, rather than have them be too tight fitting.
They are warm for walking even in temperatures in the single numbers like we've had this winter.
If you get the wrong size, which can happen buying something online, Bean customer service will work with you in trying to get you the right ones. I sent a pair back that were just too small that I had basically worn for a while, and they gave me a new pair that fit really well.
The boots are a good product, and Bean has the right idea in customer service.

I've been reading reviews about these boots for months but was having trouble because some of the reviews suggest ordering a size down while others do not. I held my breath and ordered an 11 (I wear 11 or 11.5 shoes) based on several reviews and I'm glad I did. These boots fit like a glove or boot! If I had ordered a size smaller, they would have been too small to wear. It took 3 days from ordering to receive. They slide on and off easily once the laces are loosened, are very warm, and seem at this point like they are built to last.

I have owned a pair of these boots since the mid 1980's.
I had the soles replaced once at L.L. Beans. I used them for almost 30 years, but nothing lasts forever. I just plain wore them out. I was pleased to see that they were still offered on the website. The new boots felt just like the old ones, totally comfortable from day one. I have wide feet and planned on using thick socks, so I ordered size 11 for my 11 1/2 feet. I like space in my boots. I love the new boots just as much as my old ones. Great product. Best of all they are Made in the USA.
