I really wanted a car, but my parents bought me a pair of these for my 16th birthday in 1992.
They have lasted me longer than anything I own except for a rifle and a chest of drawers. I owned a pair of $200 Danners that did not last two seasons before leaking, let alone 22 years.
I have never babied these boots. Most years they get polished once with clear Kiwi.
I wore them all day every day for four winters of college in Ann Arbor with no car. That alone must account for hundreds of miles on pavement. As these were my only winter boots all this time, I have worn them hunting hundreds of days, even in the deepest Michigan winters and storms. For days below ten degrees, I add chemical toe-warmers and get by pretty well stand-hunting. I also have shoveled decades worth of driveways in these and put serious mileage on walking the dog an hour daily in season.
In all this time, they have never had a problem. No leaks. Not one loose stitch. The leather is just now starting to lose a little color at the creases. I average 11 years per pair of laces and now the tread is wearing. They are still fine unless I'm on sheer ice headed up the sled hill. I suppose I will get them retreaded at some point.
As far as comfort, these are wonderful. As good or better than anything else I've ever worn. I will always own at least a pair (probably this pair!) for as long as I can still get them made in Maine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MagicalFruit I resisted them for years
I always hated the looks of the Bean boot, but had a boot emergency last winter and found myself buying a pair. They were comfortable immediately. The second day I wore them, I went on a five-mile hike up a mountain in the snow, and the boots were great. They're waterproof, they don't make my socks creep off, they're warm without being too hot. I'm glad I gave up and joined the Cult of the Bean Boot.

My fiancé's review of the boot:
Fit a standard size mens 10 like a glove. Very comfortable.
Warmer than the classic LLBean shearling lined 10" boots these replaced, due to ankle rubbing at the shaft/insole seam.
Can confidently stride through puddles up to his shin.

I have just ordered my 4th pair of these Maine guide boots with thinsulate insulation and goretex lining. Every one up here in alaska wears those extra tuffs and I find them to be worthless and wear out easy. the LL Bean boots have been worn out beyond repair. i wear these 6-7 days a week even in the summer. I work as a mechanic and these are just the right boots to keep my feet warm and dry. I never feel like my feet are wet or damp .I have worn these outside at -20F and have been comfortable as long as I was active. i also put a piece of sheer-ling in the bottom for added warmth in the winter. I Tried one pair of extra tuffs and they lasted about 3 months before they started to crack . My feet were always damp from sweating. they were gone and I went back to Bean boots. One day while hunting in South east Alaska My zodiac ran aground on a gravel bar that was not charted. I was standing in the water up to the very tops of the boots and I was totally dry on the inside. My friend in his extra tuffs couldn't believe it. he ordered a pair the next week.

I have owned several pairs of Bean Boots over the years. This pair was the correct size, but the thinsulate liner was sewn into the boots so that it pressed hard into the top of my feet when I pulled the boots on. I returned them immediately as they were too uncomfortable to wear even for a few minutes standing indoors.
I don't know if just this pair was defective, but both the left and right boot had exactly the same problem.

I had a similar pair of rubber bottom pacs from Bean's major outdoor competitor that lasted for years. I replaced them with these boots and am very happy. I use these for normal winter wear, blowing snow, walking the dog, etc. They don't have a real traction sole, such as you would want for hunting or climbing, but those days are past me. The fit is excellent. They are warm. There is enough room for a chemical toe warmer for late season games at Lambeau. I would say they would be great for ice fishing and for cold weather hunting where one does more sitting than hiking, especially in steep terrain, Packer games, snow blowing, & regular outdoor "walk-a-bouts". I would give them a 100% positive recommendation.

The fit information given says, if you will heavy sock order your normal shoe size. I did and when I tried them on with no socks they were hard to get into.

So pleased with this recent purchase! Living in Montreal, Canada, where sidewalks are covered in a cocktail of wintery muck for a good four months of the year, I have had my share of disappointing boots?. Until now, that is.
Wore these boots all morning through slushy, gravel-covered sidewalks, and my feet were kept dry and warm while wearing a mid-weight sock in temperatures of -12°C (10°F). Love the high leather upper for tucking in pant legs to avoid salt and slush stains. Rubber soles are flexible and comfortable. They lace up snugly and offer proper stability for ankles and feet. Comes with a removable insole, so I can wear them with my orthotic inserts. As recommended in the online fit information, I ordered a size down; with the insole removed and my orthotics inserted, the fit was just right. Although the tongue of the leather upper does have a fold, it was not uncomfortable, as some reviewers have reported, and I suspect the fold will soften in time. Just a heads up - getting the boots on and off is a tad labour intensive; I found it was more comfortable to be sitting down while pulling them off or on.
Sweet bonus for Canadian shoppers: not only are there no shipping fees, but there is no duty because the boots are made in Maine. No surprise charges.
