I've written about these boots before, they are wonderful. One quality that I appreciate about these boots is that the soles do not get clogged up with mud. The "chain link" tread gives traction without the usual heavy mud-buildup. The "chain-link" tread cleans itself out easily by walking, or stepping briefly in water.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Seattleite1111 Great boots, not for frequent use
Tried on these and the 10" at the same time for frequent use in rainy Seattle weather. I think these are great boots, but the length makes them a bit tough to pull on and off easily, and there aren't many occasions where the extra 2" is actually needed.
I'd suggest sticking with the 10" unless you plan on truly inundating these in proper wilderness wear.

This is my 3rd pair of Bean Hunting Boots. Every time I invest, I do not regret. The only drawback is that they are just stone cold. There are few socks out there that can counter act the Maine cold.

I remember my Father, who was a well known hunter in the Adirondacks, always wearing his Main hunting boots. And I was thrilled when he got me my first pair, now 30 later as a professional guide and hunter myself I think these are a great boot for any hunting and weather.

Have tried other brands, but keep coming back to L.L. Bean. I've worn the Maine Hunting Shoe off and on for over 30 years and they are the best for quiet walking in wet or dry conditions, and, I can use them safely in a stirrup while riding horseback for hunting. The fact that they can be rebuilt is a big factor for me also.

This is a great all around boot that can take any weather conditions you throw at it! I've had this boot for over a year and wear it in Southeast Alaska where most people wear all-rubber boots to keep their feet dry. These boots have kept my feet dry hiking and hunting in the rain, snow, and mud for over a year with only one coat of weather sealant prior to last winter.
My only issues are that someone with smaller feet might end up lacing the boots up to their tightest point and still have some wiggle room inside the boot.
Secondly, I'm slightly partial to the Vibram outsole for traction which they have on some of their other boots, but these are designed to help you feel the ground, which gives less grip in the wet stuff while on a decent slope.
But with LL Bean's best in the business guarantee, what are you waiting for?

Great boot. These things are super comfortable and need almost no break in period. Have had the chance to put them through the extremes and they performed as expected. Don't forget to sno seal them for better protection.

Ordered these as a second pair to wear during the summer time and keep my feet dry. Great boot and service...did I mention they are AMERICAN MADE! Oh yea these are really great boots!! Use the sizing chart, they run a little large.

I already own a pair of the 16-inch boots but wanted the 12-inch boots for around the house. The back yard is a muddy mess as our garage is being built and I've pretty much been living in these boots for 2 weeks now. You need to keep your eyes out for nails under these conditions as the rubber soles won't even slow one down. But they are warm and comfortable and it's nice to be able to just hose them off. Roomy fit, plenty of room for heavy socks. Much lighter and more comfortable than normal work boots. Traction is good without the mud buildup from deeper treads. I'm very happy with these.
