Rated 5 out of 5 by EncinitasBob Great Fit but get "hooked"
Get ready to make a statement with these boots. The 16" tall with hooks catches the eye. Why doesn't LLB list the hooks as an option!! For less than $2 as an option, why not. Speed laces are the only way to go. I can put them on faster than my 12" boots. I've been trying them out with different socks and they fit best with medium weight socks. More than enough room in the boot top to tuck in your jeans. Will probably put the "snow seal" treatment on them eventually but now just getting familiar with the boots. I will also switch out the provided laces for waxed leather laces. This will probably be my last pair because I intend to get them resoled many times over. LLB boot resoling is a great deal. Find out more about it.

Pay attention to their advice about ordering one size smaller if you're using it for non-winter weather. I normally wear a 10 EEEEEE and a 9 wide of this boot fits great.
The laces were not long enough, but that's easy enough to remedy for anyone who knows how to cut nylon cord and secure the rope ends. The grommets are of a decent size.
I had a long search for socks that were male and knee-length. I finally found a super-thin liner that I thought would be a sock, but was just a liner. I spent another bunch of time buying the lightest wool sock I could find that was long enough for the boot. Both sock and liner sit barely an inch above the boot -- if that.
Now for the good stuff: they feel like you're wearing bedroom slippers -- they're that comfortable.
If you spend a lot of times in wet woods from 30 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit + (-1 to 21 Celsius +), these things are awesome. My other waterproof boots are just WAY too warm in these temps. These LL Bean boots are tall enough to keep the water out after the spring melt or lots of rain. They're a good rain boot if you have knee-length rain gear. They're tall enough to keep the bugs out, especially with boot bands around the bottoms of your pants. Wear permethrin-sprayed mosquito netting and clothes -- with these boots -- and you can walk through clouds of biting insects without a problem.
My idea of their ideal uses: Boating in chilly weather, crossing shallow creeks, hanging out in swamps for whatever reason, hiking in buggy and marshy areas, walking marshy woods and prairie after the spring melt or a big rain, and walking seasonal wetlands. They're miles ahead of trying to make do with galoshes.
They seemed to me to look a little feminine in the photo, but they don't look that way at all when you see the boot in person.
If you're fly fishing or hunting for waterfowl, you'll probably still need waders.
I'm glad I went all the way to the final page of men's boots to find these gems!

Great for grouse/woodcock hunting. I have more expensive boots, custom boots, etc., but these are the best for the woods, especially when it's wet. Last fall I was hunting grouse and woodcock in Wisconsin. After hunting for a few hours my GPS showed that there was a shortcut to the truck. Well, it didn't show that there was a tag alder swamp in between the truck and me. Maine Hunting Shoe kept me dry in the swamp (the dogs kept looking at me as if to say, "Are you sure this is the right way!")
Boots are very comfortable and quiet in the woods. I love that they are 100% made in the USA, unlike other companies that claim USA made pac boots, but actually import the rubber bottoms from overseas. Not so with LL Bean. They make the rubber bottoms in Maine along with the rest of the boot. LL Bean customer service is outstanding. I once bought another company's pac boot that claimed "Made in USA" but later found out the rubber bottom was from Thailand. Rubber bottoms in those boots cracked. When I called to ask if it would be covered by warranty, they would not commit. That would never happen with LL Bean. Great product. Great company. Great price. If you spend time in wet woods, buy LL Bean Maine Hunting Shoe!

Rated 4 out of 5 by CJWR Great for Equestrian activities
Had a pair of these years ago for around the barn. Great for rainy days, mucking stalls, giving baths -- all the dirty work associated with horses. They were great for riding in too. Off the shelf riding boots at that time were either too narrow or too wide for my calf and custom too expensive. The lace-up style gave me the flexibility I needed. Giving them a 4 only because it would be nice if these were made for women also. I take 8.5-9, so I'm pretty sure I bought the men's 7.

I have been searching for a good boot to wear in the saddle with wet/muddy conditions. Have tried several of the other high top rubber boots and none of them fit well in a stirrup. I could have gone to wider stirrups but preferred not to.
I received my 16" Maine Hunting Shoes after doing a lot of research online. Looked at a few other brands but they all were pac boots for extreme cold weather. I wanted a boot that could be worn in both cold and warmer temps but would still keep my feet dry. I wanted a boot that was both easy into and out of a stirrup. I was in the saddle in less than 24 hours after receiving my boots from LLBean. I can say that my search is over. These things are so comfortable they feel like moccasins. My feet stayed dry even though I was riding a day after a snow melt...probably the sloppiest conditions anytime. There isn't a spur shelf but that is not necessary. I would have liked a little taller heel but the one on these boots is sufficient. I added a leather kiltie to mine and it keeps the laces from pinching at the bottom. I also ordered mine with the speed lace hooks as well and am glad I did. I think these boots will be perfect for turkey hunting as well. I will find out for sure in a couple months.
All in all a perfect boot for my needs. I intended to wait to write a review after I saw how well they lasted, but am so happy I had to write one today. If you ride in nasty weather, do yourself a favor and get a pair of these "made in America" boots.

The bottom keeps your feet dry, the upper ankle and leg portion is a good prevention for ankle sprains and they feel very comfortable to walk in. They also look great. I'm glad I purchased them.

by HopperHunter Best Boots I Own!
I bought these boots in November and I've been using them throughout the entire snowshoe hare season, they are incredible! Light weight, comfortable, and waterproof. I am an old fashion hunter so I love the classic look. I have never owned a more durable pair of boots! If your looking for a classic look and great fit the 16" is the boot for you!

These have worked well for pheasant hunting. Here in Wisconsin I have to bust through tough brush and very dense long grasses when pheasant hunting. I thought of old timey pictures of guys in these high topped boots and thought ..."they knew what they were doing" ... since it is easier to push through that dense stuff with tight bands of leather almost up to your knees rather than regular boots and cuffs. I tuck my Bean brush pants into the tops. It works! and these boots fit tight enough to my feet I don't slop around in them. Highly recommended.

Usual excellent Bean's quality. Fit is ample. Allows for extra socks & winter insoles. Probably higher than most people would need, but I've always wanted a pair for the great retro look. Just make sure to order these boots with hooks-unless you like getting up early just to lace them. I'd readily recommend them to my friends-although I doubt they'd need so high a boot.
