I love these Men's Maine Guide Pants, Four-Pocket. They are well made, comfortable, great heavy weight wool that is not itchy.
But the color choices are lousy. They should be available in blue, black, and grey as well! PLEASE! I would buy another three pairs if they were available in other colors.

These will probably handle anything New Mexico can throw at me. So far nothing has been thrown, though there are threats of a winter storm soon. Will be good for the icy winds on campus, too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by HikerNJ Great cold weather hiking pants with a base layer
I tested these on a 15 mile day hike with a lot of rock climbing in mid 20 degree dry weather with a light merino base layer underneath. The pants did great. These pants provide a lot of room for motion and I had no problem stretching my legs/ climbing up rocky mountain passes. The fabric seems pretty tough and tear/ abrasion resistant and I hope it will continue perform as well in a year (which would make them better than my synthetic hiking pants). The fabric is a perfect weight for cold weather hiking and seems to breath well; never once did my legs feel hot or cold during the hike and all one really need do is to increase the level of the base layer for colder hikes. I wore these with a pair of suspenders; had no difficulty attaching the suspenders to the pant buttons and could not feel the buttons/ suspenders underneath my pack. Suggestion on possible improvement would be to offer short/ long versions of the pant and additional colors. I also noticed they were quite wide at the leg bottoms.

OH how I wish these excellent sturdy and warm pants came in better colors. Buyer beware, the Malone color is a plaid with big green squares. I could not tell that. PLEASE LLBEAN make these great pants in Black, Blue, or Grey! I would buy three pairs at least!

Not at all what expected. Very nice pants for Sunday church service, but not for cool, late fall weather outside. Maine Guide pants? I don't imagine Maine guides wear these if they are going to be outside for any length of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ADKBrookie Great classic pair of pants!
These pants are great! Go with everyone's recommendation and order a size up for waist size! They do fit a bit snug plus with layers you'll want room. I made the mistake of ordering the wrong size and returned them for a larger pair. Shipping was practically overnight! My hat is off to you guys at Bean!
Haven't worn the pants much but my first impression:
They fit loose which is as described. Comfortable, they didn't seem itchy to me but I didn't wear them for an extended amount of time. It was like wrapping up in a blanket! They seam to be made quite solidly. I have felt wool pants of a heavier weight fabric but these feel like they will be just warm enough to be comfortable and not so warm you sweat to death trudging through the woods. I would suggest a base layer anyhow since wool tends to be itchy!

Good pants. Arrived deeply wrinkled due to plastic bag stuffed in my large mailbox. I complained to LLBean and was given a $10 gift certificate. Cost me $6.40 to get them professionally pressed. But I like them, especially since I applied $50 in coupons toward their purchase. Nice soft wool.

I've wanted such "Malone" pants for decades, finally decided "If not now, when?" They are WONDERFUL.

Rated 4 out of 5 Check that waist size!
The fabric, style and comfort of these pants is great. But I should have listened to others who note the waist size runs small. I normally wear size 34 1/2 -36", so I ordered a 36" waist. They just fit but could be snug when factoring in winter weight shirt layers; and there's no extra material for taking the waist out if need be. I'm sending them back for a waist size 38, then I'll have the waist taken in, leaving room for "growth" in the future.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JEB1980 Not quite what I thought they were
I really wanted to like these pants but I found the fit and texture a little too much. The fit is baggy as in beyond a relaxed fit. I couldn't see myself wearing these out on the town as so many have reviewed. Additionally I got the 34" waist and it's definitely a 33 if not 32.5. Really tight. The wool did make my legs itch in the few minutes I wore them. Not sure if they break in and that goes away. I'm not sure about the warmth since I immediately put them back in the bag and sent them back to LL Bean. If LL Bean had these in a straight fit you've got my money. Until then no thanks.
