I've had several pairs of these, and the kids wear through them before they outgrow them ? every time it's been due to cracks where the foot flexes. My kids are heavy users, though ? twice a week at school in fall and spring, plus use when it rains, 3 seasons. I'd recommend this for an occasional use rain boot, or if you're willing to deal with returns, to get these and replace as needed.

My son received a yellow pair as a gift two years ago and these have been his favorite pair of footwear since he received them.
The toe box has upheld with active use with no cracking in either the upper or lower. The interior lining is still fully intact without wearing through, tearing, or shifting. One pull-on handle broke last fall, but the others appear to be substantially stronger than the one that broke.
I cannot comment fairly on sizing as my son has *hard to fit* foot. (XXW foot with a high arch) The pair we have in size 13 was purchased for a size 12 foot. The extra room in the length was long but not a freakishly clown shoe length when comparing width/arch. The upper suited my child's high arch without abrasion/irritation.
After 2 1/2 years of wear, they remain water tight and serviceable with the sole tread intact.

These boots are just perfect! They are true to size, well made and oh so cute. My 3 1/2 year old granddaughter loves them. She wears between a size 9 and 10. I ordered her a size 10 and the fit is great, not to big, but room to grow. I now need to order the matching rain jacket.

I bought my kids' boots one size too large so they'd still fit them come spring. I have to send one pair of boots back because they juuuuust fit right now and there will be no room to grow, and the other pair back because they are so narrow they hurt his feet. Also, the heel is 1" high, which is a lot for a two year old. So, a conditional OK for these, but nothing enthusiastic.

My daughters have L.L.Bean sneakers, Mary Janes, and winter boots. All of which are wonderful. The Puddle Stompers however were a bit of a disappointment. The inner liners on both boots wore right out in the heel area. I'm exchanging them them for Kids Bean Wellies ($10 more) and hoping that these are more durable. I was very pleased with L.L.Bean Customer Service - it's nice that a company stands behind its products.

I bought these boots in yellow, planning to let my daughter wear them and then pass them on to my son. My daughter is usually pretty light on things, and as a tween, not prone to a lot of playing in the rain, etc. Turns out, she LOVES these boots and wore them out! The boots are really nicely made and the plastic is substantial without being stiff or heavy. They were actually just so nice my daughter wouldn't stop wearing them and they ended up cracking across the top at the base of the toe, where shoes tend to bend when you walk. I called and even though the shoes are getting close to a year old, they are happily replacing them. In fact, I am here today to order 2 more pairs!

When a 6-y.o. boy gets Puddle Stompers for his birthday, we need rain! Our grandson is marching around with only dry earth, but rain is now in the forecast. Hooray for Puddle Stompers!!!

As shipping and customs could make one avoid ordering internationally, there are some things at LLBean we can't live without and these are one.
I've tried other boots locally and no matter the price, they never compare to these boots. Many rubber boots are totally flimsy and have no support or solid sole whatsoever. My picky son and daughter refuse to wear any other boots. We now have these in every size for 1.5 - 5 years old and have just ordered the next size up. We highly recommend the yellow (very visible & unisex!).
Lastly, my son NEVER STOPS RUNNING and these have yet to slow him down. Other boots often left him flat out in the mud!
