Rated 2 out of 5 by tolst Warm & comfortable, but they don't last
Although I was delighted with these boots for the first few weeks I wore them (and I absolutely still love them and wish I could afford to buy a new pair every season!), I invested in them with the hope that they'd keep my feet warm & dry for several years. Unfortunately, they're pretty much dead after a mere 3 months -- the liner is worn out and the soles are treadless. Granted, I was wearing them while trekking over ridges and through rivers for several miles a day (and they kept my feet comfortable & happy the whole time!), but I've never worn out a pair of boots -- much less an LL Bean product -- in a single season. The folks at Bean kindly explained to me that the soft soles wear out more quickly and that it's possible to purchase new liners and have them resoled, but I'd recommend saving the time and trouble in the first place -- buy the classic boots.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Swoop2007 Warm boots, horrible design
I purchased the Maine Hunting Shoe about 2 months ago, and I'm honestly very torn. I chose these because they were 10", whereas the Gortex/Thinsulate lined Bean Boots only went up to 8" (and I didn't want the shearling). They feel great - the description of the soft, flexible bottom is accurate - and keep my feet very warm and dry. That being said...
The liner is horrible. It's a terrible design. Yes, it's warm and waterproof, but it comes out ever time you want to take them off. The two ridiculously underpowered velcro strips at the top do nothing to hold the liner in place. Either the liner is sliding down when my foot goes in or is holding fast as I try to get it out. I have a slender foot, but it's a struggle to get these on and off.
My husband has the G/T Bean Boot, where the liner is sewn in, and I would recommend that 100% to anyone who is in the market for Bean Boots. The Hunting Shoes are warm boots, but just a terrible design.
(FYI - I'm a 9.5 and bought the size 9 boot, and they fit well length-wise.)

I really like these boots. As others have written they are difficult to get on, but I think they are loosing up the more I wear them. Today I went snow shoeing and needed to carry my dog across an icy creek. We did it very quickly, without any slipping on the rocks and my feet never felt the coldness of the water. Make sure to order the size as suggested; I had to return a pair for a smaller size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Alba74 Difficult to remove
I am normally a size 7 and purchased the size 6 as recommended, but found that I couldn't lace the boot up all the way, so returned them for a 7. The 7 allows me to lace it up further, but the laces still stop at the second or third row from the top.
I have not had any trouble getting the boots on; the bootie has stayed in placed quite well. Instead, my problem is that I cannot get these boots off my feet with tugging and pulling and struggling to get my foot out. There is no "wiggle room" at all, even with the laces loosened to halfway down the boot. I have had to unlace the first few rows of laces entirely in order to get enough wiggle room to pull my foot out, and even that was a struggle. I can see that getting old very fast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Swoop2007 Good winter boot
I really am happy with this purchase. They are warm and waterproof, and are the perfect height. The only problem I have is that the liners are held up by velcro, so you have to hold them with two hands in order to get your foot in without having the liners slip down with you foot. A bit annoying, honestly, but the boots are good enough to overlook that design flaw.

Rated 4 out of 5 by DentalSmile Liner needs improvement
Great boot but the velcro that holds the liner inside the boots comes loose when I insert my foot. Have to hold it separately with my fingers to keep it from falling into the boot ahead of my foot. Needs a better fastening system to keep the liner secure.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LLBeanFan88 Very disappointing
I love Bean boots and have worn them since I was a child. This pair, however, was impossible to get on -- and I wish I'd read these reviews before I bought them, as many others have noted this problem. Not only could I not get my foot into the sole of the boot, the Gore-tex lining shifted down every time I pushed my foot in, so I would be semi-standing on it. I returned them along with the 7-inch lounger boot with shearling lining as those hit my calf in the wrong place and were oddly clunky. I also returned a pair of Stormchaser clogs as the new "improved" model no longer features the comfortable sole or slim styling. So today I picked up a pair of of 8-inch Thinsulate lace-up hunting shoes, the very same style I bought back in the fourth grade and that lasted for 25 years. Shoulda known.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CityMeetsCountry Fit like a Glove
Just got these in the mail, and they are perfect. The other reviewers are definitely correct when they say that the boots are difficult to get on, but that's to be expected from boots of this height. I found it easier to put them on by taking the gortex lining out and putting that on first then sliding my foot into the boot.
Anyway, they fit perfectly. The sizing info that L.L.Bean posted about these boots is very accurate, so I recommend following them. I am normally a 7 or 7 1/2, so I ordered a 6, and I couldn't be happier.
Can't wait for it to snow, so I can take these out for a spin.

I recently bought these boots for wearing on my honeymoon to New Zealand. They were absolutely fantastic. Before I bought them I thought that they might not be ideal for long hikes (being a hunting shoe rather than designed for hiking) but they were perfect. No matter the terrain: around town, farms, rainforests, sand dunes, marshes, snow, and glaciers.
I loved these so much. Their only downside is they do need to be unlaced down quite far to get on and off but this was never enough to put me off wearing them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by FirstTimeBeanBuyer Couldn't get my foot it boot
I love the look of these boots and bought two different sizes hoping to find the perfect fit. I normally wear a size 8 shoe, so I first bought a size 7 boot. It was difficult to get my foot into the Gore Tex bootie, and after some struggle, got it both the bootie and boot itself only to find that the boot length was too big. I returned the 7s and bought a size 6 but could not even get my foot into the bootie. Ultimately, I decided to get the 8" Bison Boots instead. They fit much better and have a similar look, though they are 2 inches shorter than the Hunting Boot.
