Lots of us started backpacking circa 1970 using ?authentic? Norwegian-made 100% wool rag socks. They were thick enough to provide much needed padding before modern foot beds and today?s more comfortable boots but they were scratchy, tended to shrink even when hand washed and air dried, slipped down and bunched up uncomfortably and wore thin quickly in the heels. I've had some of these for several years with little or no visible wear and they hold their shape better than the Norwegians ever dreamed of.
LL Bean Ragg Socks long ago solved those issues: the wool is softer but yet wears well; they machine wash without shrinking (I always air dry); they fit smoothly and hold their shape.
No, these aren?t state-of-the-art and sophisticated like the LL Bean Boot, Cresta or Compression socks I wear with ?serious? hiking and mountain boots.
It?s better to think of them as ?comfort food for your feet?: they feel good and look great in a nostalgic way they perfectly complements Bean Boots, moccasins, ranger shoes and chukkas.
Recently I sprang for the ?Blue Multi? version which actually consists of a pair each of predominantly blue and a red socks. The added not-too-bright colors look terrific ? better than the online photo IMO ? and add fun color between the hem of jeans or khakis and various Bean shoes and low boots for the winter holidays and lodge/cabin endeavors.
Yet another ?must have? for LL Bean traditional attire fanboys and fangirls!

I've been wearing and purchasing these socks for almost 20 years now. They have transitioned through different textures and thicknesses as well as price increases. Initially, I believe they came three to a package and one of them had to be a different color, type. I am 74 years old and all my socks are the same, charcoal, large, L.L. Bean merino wool socks. Great wool socks for a reasonable price. Keeps my feet warm at night, wish had gotten a small since does not fit under a shoe. But great bedtime socks.

Socks are warm and offer comfort even after long work days. Whats even better is the wool keeps you dry and smelling neutral even after long days. I just ordered them again!

I was really excited to open the package from L.L. Bean today and try on this pair of wool socks. They are comfortable, look really nice, and fit well in my new boots that also arrived. I know these socks will keep my feet nice and toasty throughout the upcoming winter!

I wanted to get some warm socks for the winter, and these were absolutely perfect, they exceeded expectations. My feet were instantly warm when I put them on, I've never had socks like that. They're also a little cushy. I'm getting another pack and two for my sister. I love that they come in a two packs. These are a must have for the winter. I feel confident and happy that my feet will finally be warm no matter the weather. Thank you LLBean!

These socks are absolutely wonderful! They fit comfortably and I use them all the time. My mother was skeptical about how wool socks perform in hot weather but these work better than all the cotton socks in my drawer. Wool breathes and doesn't smell.

Rated 5 out of 5áby Jimthewalker But the next size up!
These socks are comfortable and look good, but there is one problem with them. If you get the size indicated on the sizing chart, the heels and toes will wear out too soon. I did this with my first order, and would not have bought them again except they felt so comfortable on my feet. When I bought the next size up they wore much better. These are not expensive socks that promise to wear forever like iron, but for the price they are a good buy

I love these ragg socks and have many pairs. They are good in summer or winter! Comfy with the LL Bean buffalo moc's.
Really excellent quality, and worn with double L jeans and a flannel shirt, they cannot be beat! I would add Pathfinder hat! That is a shameless endorsement!

I have purchased ragg socks of one kind or another from LL Bean for the last 50 years. These new ones all have holes in the heels already after less than a dozen outings. These last few pairs I bought had to be an XL since the large ones I bought last year shrank so much they were like children's socks-not at all like the great ones I used to get. Also I am very disappointed that the cotton version of these has been discontinued. Sure I could send all these back but I live in England and it costs so much to send them and then I often have to pay extra taxes and duty. Just very sad not to be able to get my old favourite daily wear socks...
