Rated 5 out of 5 by voidp Awesome ? but take heed!
I ruined my first pair of these because I didn't follow the instruction card. By not turning them inside-out before washing they became really matted. They also shrank in the drier and were impossible to pull on. I bought several more pairs a size larger (as others have recommended) and now dry them on the line. Since then I've had no problems. I wear them with boots every day year 'round and they keep my feet comfortably dry.

On the first day, the yarn thinned at the heels where the socks touch the back of the shoe. So much wool was lost that we thought it wore through to a hole, but not quite. We picked off the pills. I would expect this after months, not the first time out, especially for the price.
Super disappointed, as we are new customers and have heard good things about LLB quality.

I was so excited to get these socks after looking at all of the fabulous reviews. I haven't had anything wool for a long time and thought maybe it was a different type of wool that didn't itch since no one seems to mention that in their review. However, they started itching as soon as I put them on. Bummer. So disappointed. The socks do seem to be made well and I loved the colors, just not a wool fan I guess. Going to exchange for the cotton ragg socks.

Great socks for the price. Keep my feet warm inside my home, and with insulated boots (also from L.L.Bean) kept them warm in 3 inches of snow with -5 wind chill at 4a.m. when I took my dog out for her walk before work. I would have given 5 stars, but the size guide said what I ordered fit a size 12 shoe (I wear a size 11 1/2 ) , but they are slightly small. Still going to order more just a size larger

Rated 5 out of 5 by BackwoodsBozo Think of these as comfort food for your feet
Lots of us started backpacking circa 1970 using ?authentic? Norwegian-made 100% wool rag socks. They were thick enough to provide much needed padding before modern foot beds and today?s more comfortable boots but they were scratchy, tended to shrink even when hand washed and air dried, slipped down and bunched up uncomfortably and wore thin quickly in the heels. I've had some of these for several years with little or no visible wear and they hold their shape better than the Norwegians ever dreamed of.
LL Bean Ragg Socks long ago solved those issues: the wool is softer but yet wears well; they machine wash without shrinking (I always air dry); they fit smoothly and hold their shape.
No, these aren?t state-of-the-art and sophisticated like the LL Bean Boot, Cresta or Compression socks I wear with ?serious? hiking and mountain boots.
It?s better to think of them as ?comfort food for your feet?: they feel good and look great in a nostalgic way they perfectly complements Bean Boots, moccasins, ranger shoes and chukkas.
Recently I sprang for the ?Blue Multi? version which actually consists of a pair each of predominantly blue and a red socks. The added not-too-bright colors look terrific ? better than the online photo IMO ? and add fun color between the hem of jeans or khakis and various Bean shoes and low boots for the winter holidays and lodge/cabin endeavors.
Yet another ?must have? for LL Bean traditional attire fanboys and fangirls!

Rated 5 out of 5 by GeorgeGUSNUSAFRET Best sock I ever owned!
I've been wearing and purchasing these socks for almost 20 years now. They have transitioned through different textures and thicknesses as well as price increases. Initially, I believe they came three to a package and one of them had to be a different color, type. I am 74 years old and all my socks are the same, charcoal, large, L.L. Bean merino wool socks. Socks are warm and offer comfort even after long work days. Whats even better is the wool keeps you dry and smelling neutral even after long days. I just ordered them again!

I was really excited to open the package from L.L. Bean today and try on this pair of wool socks. They are comfortable, look really nice, and fit well in my new boots that also arrived. I know these socks will keep my feet nice and toasty throughout the upcoming winter!

I wanted to get some warm socks for the winter, and these were absolutely perfect, they exceeded expectations. My feet were instantly warm when I put them on, I've never had socks like that. They're also a little cushy. I'm getting another pack and two for my sister. I love that they come in a two packs. These are a must have for the winter. I feel confident and happy that my feet will finally be warm no matter the weather. Thank you LLBean!
