Rated 1 out of 5 by Verified Reviewer Came apart first time I used it
I bought this mount for my Minn Kota electric trolling motor.
I didn't like the construction when I first looked at it -- bad finish work, sharp edges -- cheap varnish coating -- but love LL Bean and figured it was worth a shot.
I waited for the American River to get a nice spring flow -- and finally put it to use on my Mohawk Nova 16 canoe. This is a royalex boat and only weighs 58 pounds.
First use, literally, first thrust of the puny electric motor and the entire mount flexed in a worrisome way. I had to reposition the mount and torque it down again.
The current was fair -- I could paddle upstream without the motor and battery in the boat, so I figured it would be a dream with the motor -- but, when I was out in the flow and doing a few maneuvers with the boat, at one point I switched from low reverse gear to forward approximately half-speed, and the mount pretty much just came apart.
I'm talking 20 minutes of use or less, total. Brand factory new.
The faceplate (mounting plate) partially detached and the crossbar cracked... and I'm talking about very little thrust in a lightweight boat that only had me, a paddle, a motor, a battery and this product.
Worthless. I thought for sure my motor was going deep. If it wasn't for the fact that I know what I'm doing on the river, I could have been in trouble AND lost my motor.
This product is unworthy.

I have already done a mock set-up and this seems a very adequate mount for my trolling motor

The holes for mount were drilled off center so it was hard to adjust and it only made contact on the edge of canoe. There is no solid surface mounting. The edge of canoe is beveled but mount is not. I had to return it because it would not stay tight. I almost lost the motor when it kept coming loose.

I'm using the mount for a small electric motor on my canoe. It does this well. However if you want to use this for a gas motor it may not be beefy enough.

The price was right and the fit was perfect. Make sure to check for screw tightness before you mount the motor. I mounted a 30lb trolling motor and the maiden voyage went flawless. Wonderful day on the lake.

We buy from LL Bean over nearly all other brands as a rule, because their quality always surpasses their competition. Sadly this item does not. The two pieces of wood began pulling apart almost immediately after taking the weight of the trolling motor (which we bought at the same time from the same salesperson) The only thing holding it together were the two bolts, which flexed dramatically each time we gently engaged the motor. We returned the item and bought a similar (but rock solid) model down the street at a canoe manufacturer.
I was disappointed in Bean's item but trust they will pull it for something with more quality construction. This one is truly horrible.

Product was as described in the ad. All canoes are different and this mount required minor modification. Completely satisfied with what I received. Well made and will no doubt serve it's intended purpose for years to come.

I wouldn't recommend this mount for motors 2hp or larger. The bolts are apparently soft metal and bent badly when I used my mount with a 2.5 hp Yamaha on my Old Town Canoe. I thought I was going to lose my motor on the Allagash.

Poor construction. I wouldn't have trusted it not to break from the torque of a 2 hp, 2 stroke outboard. I had to return it.
