I received this product at my hotel to replace a bag that busted on its way to my destination, thank you airlines.... this was a replacement and it is everything i expected, durable, quality product with plenty of room. i loaded it with 48lbs of cargo and it made it home like a champ. easy to load/unload, rolls nicely and isn't too big. I had a much larger framed duffle in the past and it was too easy to overfill it and exceed the airline excesssive bag fee weight. we'll see if it lasts, but it looks and feels like it will. i have been through many bags in my days. i'd purchase another.

Rated 2 out of 5 by fletch Not LL bean quality
I have always relied on high quality products from LL Bean and this item does not come close to the quality I expected. I have only used the item once and the fabric around the handle is already coming apart. I will be returning the item.

Rated 2 out of 5 by TravelgirlMA Used to be a great bag - but not anymore!
I have had a few of these bags over the years and I used to LOVE them! I even bought some as gifts and talked my parents into buying one!
There must have been a design change, because the only issues I had prior to 2 years ago was damage caused by the airlines. The bag is great, has a hard bottom section for shoes, liquids, more fragile items, etc. However in the last 2 years I have bought and returned 3 bags because of faulty craftsmanship. I cannot believe I am saying this about an LL Bean product!! The first time material pulled away from the handle area, I thought it must be some mistake- brought it back and of course had it exchanged with no problem! My next bag did the same thing! So I returned it after my first use! I have been without my Bean suitcase and mised it, so I just purchased another one and hit the road for a 5 week trip which included many flights. Well, the design flaw still exists! My bag is tearing away from the handle plastic, staples are exposed and the piping is unraveling. Since I am in the middle of my trip, there is nothing I can do but hope all of my items, and the bag, make it home so I can return it again!!
LL Bean, what has happened to your quality control??!!??

I've had this a while now and it's been through several airports and hotels. It wears like iron and it still looks like new.

Rated 1 out of 5 by 04016 Poorly constructed; does not meet LLBean quality
Purchased two in late August; following (during) very first airplane trip in September, both pieces separated at the handle; extremely poorly constructed. Received two new ones from Customer Service immediately as is Bean's very fine satisfaction policy; now on our very first trip with those, and have the identical problem at the handle end on both duffles. Plus, as I read other reviews, comments are absolutely correct regarding the inability of duffle to "stand" on legs when not fully packed. Also agree that the lack of interior straps is a negative. Canvas material is far too light for the type of product. This is a very inferior product for the price. Definitely NOT LLBean quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BachelorLiving Great buy and durable
I bought one of these for my frequent travels and I'm pleased to report that it has lasted and continues to last me through my travels (touch wood). While I admit that it has only been subject to the tender mercies of airline baggage handlers, bellhops and cabbies, the only thing that hasn't really survived is the sewn on luggage tag (which is currently ripping off but not much of a big deal when it comes to clothing containment). I quite like the semi-stiff shoe compartment because it has enabled me to transport potentially breakable items without having to resort to using a hardshell bag such as alcohol in small glass bottles (if heavily padded with bubble wrap and surrounded by shoes) that wouldn't be permitted through TSA security. In viewing other comments, I find it ludicrous that there is anybody asking for straps when packing less items (buy and use a smaller one for smaller loads) and a more balanced version when they stand it up (if it's packed fully, it stands up fine for me) for they have no concept of what the term "duffel bag" means as compared to, say, a suit carrier or overnighter which each have their own functionalities. My only pet peeves are two and minor: That the embroidery used for my initials on a black bag is done in a dark silver (difficult to see when they could've used a totally contrasting color such as scarlet or even just plain red) and some compartments (at the ends and the slider on the side) don't have locking loops where I can secure them using disposable clear plastic zip/cable locks which allow TSA to get into the bag if necessary (and alert me that someone has been in the bag because they have to be cut off and TSA is supposed to replace them using blue zip/cable locks) yet keep the average larcenous/nosey baggage handler out of it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Sorryluggage Not a well made bag expected from LLBean
There are 3 problems with the bag:
1. There are no straps inside the bag. When the bag is not totally packed to capacity, the content tend to roll around. That is why straps are essential.
2. The bottom is not well balanced when stand up with handle pulled, the bag tends to tip over away from the handle.
3. I'm still away on my first trip with this bag. When I got to the hotel, one of the plastic stands (opposite the wheeels to make bag stands up with handle extended) was already missing a big part. I kno w the airport luggage handlers are tough, would expect it to at least stand up to a few abuses!
Poorly design and material not up to my expectation of LLBean!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mopester Gorilla failure!
Received the bag in June and used it for the first time in July for a supported bicycle ride across Iowa. Great look and easy to pack, super under compartment section but sorry to say not very gorilla handler friendly...it failed the 1st day of handling.
The loop handle at the top end of the bag by the pull-out handle must have been to pull up on the end to pull the bag out of the tent and it pulled the bag loose from the plastic casing around the pull-out handle. The material is just stapled to a plastic or fiberboard backing and then sandwiched between another layer but may lack side-pull support.
I sent it back and ordered a replacement so we shall see how it holds up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by kathyconn useful bag
The best thing about this bag is the zipper section on the bottom that is separate from the upper zipper section. This allows storage of shoes or items not needed as often as items on the top.
The least favorite thing about this bag is the support of the bag when it is standing up. The front supports are not high enough so the bag tends to fall forward and fall over.
It is fairly durable, but clothes do shift and stack on themselves which causes wrinkles. Especially if the bag is not fully packed. It is difficult to lift for a short and older female.
It is a little pricey for what you get, but overall a good bag.
